http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...urce=rss&utm_medium=Sendible&utm_campaign=RSS New boss Advocaat has promoted winger signed but never used by Di Canio and played once as a sub by successor Poyet - and he could figure at West Ham Former non-League prospect Duncan Watmore, 21, is yet to make a senior start for the Black Cats in almost two seasons at the Stadium of Light. Indeed, he has made just ONE appearance for the first-team, seeing 27 minutes of action as a sub in their FA Cup third-round win over Carlisle in January last year. Sunderland beat a host of rival clubs to land the speedy winger from Cheshire club Altrincham in May 2013, when he became the first signing of Paolo Di Canio’s ill-fated six-month Stadium of Light reign at age 19. Watmore has regularly caught the eye for the Under-21s this season, and has been fast-tracked to train with the first team in new boss Advocaat’s two sessions in charge so far this week. About bleeding time, ha'way Dunc
New blood and new ideas, could be exciting times in the next few weeks. Makes you wonder why Gus never had him playing though apart from his injury. Gus must have been a stubborn fu**er and didn't like taking advice on bringing thru new players.
Good news for the lad - let's hope he keeps on developing and becomes a consistently successful player for us
As DA pointed out in an interview on another thread, he's got nothing to lose. The squad is so thin so why not give the lad a shot at the big time. If he's as good as Bracewell says he is, it will look like a gifted move! If he's not, it's on Bracewell.
At least he seems to be listening mate. Poyet took no notice of Bracewell or Congerton or any bugger else for that matter.
he's probably seen how thin the squad is and decided to give him a go ....................pity he couldn't have found a couple of pacy centre backs knocking around the AOL as well
Thank ****.... At least we might get to know how likely it is the kid's going to make it in the top flight. Ha'way Dunc!!
I've seen him in the reserves - he's lightning fast and looks good on the ball. Canny finish on him too and can cross! No brainer really for me - just hope he progresses and doesn;t end up like Noble!
Seen enough of him to know he's worth a run out.Why didn't Poyet play him?-Why didn't Bruce/O'Neil try things obvious to many supporters when all was going wrong?Did they want out-job too big-beyond them-sacked with big contract pay-off? Sounds crazy ,but CVs don't count much--they nearly all soon get new jobs in the managerial merrygoround.
Bout ****ing time. He hasn't been out on loan because he was apparently ready for the first team and has just been wasting in the U21s all season. He's pissed on the development league effortlessly, that's no good for his development at all. He needs to be training with the seniors and contributing. This is great news. I would be so quick to praise Bracewell in this, chances are Dick simply saw the lad train and watched some recent u21 matches
He didn't have a great time up at Hibernian, though it was a difficult time to play there (relegation season). So I think he's probably benefited from playing back in the development squad to regain some confidence. I think this is a good time to promote him and let him have another crack at first team football. I hope so. Good luck to him.
Only because of injury which niggled until the season end. He got nowt but glowing reports. You've not seen much of Watmore is you think he needed his confidence rebuilding it never ever went. You're miles off, he's about the most resolute you can get with a footballer. He's got the fire and determination of a Wayne Rooney and has completely confidence in his own ability which believe me, is ample. 5 goals and 2 assists in 15 starts this season from the wing with a leg break in the middle tells me just in the stats alone that confidence isn't an issue. Actually watch him play and you'll see to question his confidence is bizzare. Just not that sort of player, he breads confidence in others if anything.
One goal in nine games up at Hibs, though you're right about the injury. I'm not questioning the lad, but playing in a relegation season anywhere is a miserable time, so I think a spell back at a level he can enjoy was probably good for him. Glowing reports? - yes, I remember McClean too. Watmore sounds like a good'un, so let's just play our cards right and do the job properly..
