As I said, only 18 months ago he was been hailed as future of English football: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...wnsend-after-manofthematch-debut-8876095.html
Dawson is 31 and hasn't played for England for over 4 years. He's had a good few months for us but was never going to be called up. Last year I berated Hodgson for the inclusion of Smalling and Cleverley, but don't think he's got a fat lot wrong here. I don't actually think the squad is as poor as some are making out. 6/7 really good and in form players in there, just lacking a tough holding midfielder I think.
A tough midfielder, a centre half and a right back I reckon. John Terry should never have been victimised by the twaterrazi and condemned in his media trial, forcing his premature retirement. We might have done a bit better over the last two tournaments.
Isn't he always? I don't think it's that bad a selection, though I wouldn't pick Townsend, whoever was or wasn't available.
I don't think its a bad selection either, it's as good as he has to go on at present if Chamberlain's injured as mentioned. More stating the fact that he's got **** all to work with. Smelling is a bit iffy as he's a tried and tested disaster, Stones looked an incredible talent last season, but I think he's gone right off the boil presently. When people like Delph, who I think is a decent player but lacking by England standards, are making the squad and starting games, we know we're light on the ground.
Chamberlain is injured? I'd have another striker in the squad instead of Townsend then. Austin personally.
A mediocre manager's selection of a mediocre squad which will inevitably lead to another mediocre performance.
I'm with you on that. I know goal scoring is the most important thing, but at international level you need more then that. It'll be interesting who signs him when DQPR go down.
One of the many problems I have with Woy is that he keeps picking Baines who has proven himself to be nowhere near international class for years now in big tournaments as well as normal internationals. Also why do the Man U defenders get picked regardless
So 15 goals in 26 appearances isn't good enough? Don't be ridiculous, he should be in there instead of Welbeck
It's not really fair on players like Ings/Berahino aren't in the squad when Sturridge has just come back from injury. Same applies with Walcott, why can't we just give in-form players a chance. You could unearth a gem, instead of just playing the same players who haven't succeeded.
Say what you like about Woy but his non selection of Curtis has been shown to be correct. Yes he had a good season last year but the pressure of an international game might well have made him revert to type. Mind you Hodgson didn't avoid selecting Davies for the right reasons(he's not that good) but because he plays for little Hull City.
