Good news. It's all done and sorted and old man Steptoe will be flying next to the Bruce Banner for Sunday's game. Given the mood at the moment, I think it's worth saying that I don't think the Club could have been more helpful and deserve a pat on the back over this, as do everyone else that donated in any form. I think mauled1904 has done us proud again. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
I can accept what you're saying about the choice. There's been a fair bit learned from this, so hopefully it's far from that or nothing, and maybe something can be done more to your taste in the future. I wouldn't know where to start making something like that on a piece of paper, never mind on something you can only see properly from a distance. Well done again mauled1904.
Don't get me wrong I want more Amber and Black, I want more pride in who we are, I want more celebration of our Culture. But this Cobb Morley thing just smacks of desperation to me. I'm willing to bet if you polled all those who attended the first game at the KC "Who was Cobb Morley" almost everyone wouldn't have a clue. Like I say, I wholeheartedly supprt the efforts of those trying to improve the atmosphere at the KC, so much so I almost regret being critical. However, I think it important with such matters that honestly held opinions are aired, so there is mine.
No problem with airing opinions, at the end of the day, even criticism can be positive if you learn from it. I can accept what you're saying, but perhaps if people ask who he was, or what did old man steptoe ever do for Hull, the answer could give them one more reason to be proud of this City. It's not all or nothing, if there's a desire, we can always look to add to them. One option could be a wall of fame, with images of past hero's. I doubt any will be as big as the first two, so it should give more options on display and less cost.
Probably right, so should we just pretend he doesn't exist or should we celebrate him and promote it?
No, that's not my point. My point is I would rather celebrate OUR TRUE HEROES rather than someone who the fans have to be told about.
I can't see the image on this thread either. even if I take out the link on it's own all I get is.. Not606 - Error You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action.
Agreed, it's not like it's these 2 then that's it. Loads of clubs have banners of former heroes and it would be great to see the same for recognising both on and off pitch influences. If we're after a next suggestion it has to be a former player - the existing 2 arent - and for me it can only be Captain Marvel Ash, the man who did more on-pitch for us than any other in history. Would be great to have him back to unveil it.
Fair comment. That was one of the options, but at the time this one got the vote, but I think there's a lot of desire to do exactly what you're suggesting in the future. Perhaps a series of flags waved by the mascots as the players come out, each with a hero on it? Replicas could be made for people to wave in the crowd?
I can only think it's because I used an image from an earlier post, or possibly even a PM. Hang on, I'll see if I can chnage it from this PC. EDIT. Nah, it won't. Anyone got access to tinypics that's prepared to drop the picture through that if I PM them? Failing that, I can do it tonight.
I was about to make the same suggestion - something like a big picture of him with 'Ashbee's gonna get you' next to it would be my choice
