Not in hospital, at your house with your mum, sister and wife. She loved it.

blimey how did I miss this sensible non-sexist friendly thread
    now who started this ?
My better half used to play in a very good Bristol Rovers ladies team and although a massive gas fan I think its fair to say she could hold a football conversation with most men.

To be fair Possum if she played for the ladies team I reckon she could not just hold a football conversation, she could probably teach a fair few men a good deal about footie.

I say that having read a whole load of drivel from a lot of fans who think they know more than they do.

Well you would 3rd Eye you spend most of your time on the Saint's board.

There in itself is a sexist comment....."a "ladies" team". You don't get Gentlemen teams you get "Mens football" and in the same vein you should get "woman's football". Don't you think the other title is patronising? I've met quite a few gasheads in my time and even played cricket against some of them. Bit mad most of them and I think it was standing on their terraces and breathing in that lovely clean aroma from the surrounding area that caused it.

To be honest, Ladies is part of the official name of the majority of women's teams, so calling them Ladies teams is fairly understandable. There's about 3 or 4 teams I can think of which are Women rather than Ladies: Reading, Durham, Bristol Academy and maybe one or tow others Although generally the term women's team is used in my experience when referring to teams with female players.

Btw, I saw Plymouth Ladies once.

I know but the title "ladies" sort of implies it not being taken seriously and them just playing because they can have tea and cakes after. Don't think it is meant to sound sexist but to me it just does. There again if you can't take the proverbial out of the opposite sex then who is left to take the proverbial out of?

I expect you have seen more than a few Plymouth ladies PompeyLampras. There isn't any other kind.........<diva>

You are kidding right? I never to on the Saints board. In fact I rarely go on anyone else's board. The Pompey board does me fine.

Anyway, I knew I should have added "but not, I hasten to add, on this board" - no, there's a whole lot of social meeja out there as well as some dumb asses who attend games and moan the whole way through.

Ladies vs Women - it's just a description, a long time ago it was considered sexist, but not so much nowadays and the team from Pompey is called Pompey Ladies which is why I use that term for women's football.

Still it's good that men think about it.

Well Possum you know you can always rely on me to be politically correct and even minded on most threads!<laugh>

On the 'Ladies' front(careful SB3<laugh>) throughout Rugby notably , International, professional,County and Club rugby played by the gentler sex is universally known as 'Ladies Rugby' . So why not ' Ladies Football'? <whistle>

More than familiar with Diamond Lil's but not who put the show on. I was born and bred in this City and until I joined Her Majesty's finest I had no idea what went on in the dark hours. Mind you I was still at school up to 2 weeks before I joined at 16. It's a bit odd when you go ashore with an ex Geordie miner from "up noorth" who knows more about your home town than you do.
