Based on getting Burton Albion promoted (top of League 2) currently in only his first season as a Manager. He has proven that he is willing to work his way up the league ladder and he likes to get it down and pass it. Definitely worth a punt IMO.
Another George Burley perhaps! Like I say he will be very much in demand if he carries on the way he's going.
Roy Keane with 2 decent assistants, Paul Jewell and Jim Magilton!! Failing that a decent up and coming coach from abroad that wouldnt just look at Irish players or other uk rejects!!
We've never appointed a non UK or NI manager in the club's history.. whether that is something to proud of I'm not too sure but it's becoming less and less common All the talk of up and coming managers, I'll throw the name of Paul Tisdale back into the ring I do mention him every time that managers are mentioned but I honestly think he will go on to have a successful career in football management
Thing is, look at all the top prem sides, all have foreign managers, why? Maybe because they are less blinkered?
Or because its 'on trend'..........doesn't make any difference on nationality a good manager is a good manager.
Regarding the foreign manager debate, we shouldn't rule one out just because we've only hired British managers in the past. Likewise, we shouldn't just hire one because we haven't employed a foreign manager yet. Nationality isn't such an important thing as it once was, because of globalisation. While some will point to negatives and positives of that cultural change, I think we can take advantage of it. I'd really like us to hire a Dutch manager in the future, providing he can speak the language, because we have a connection to Holland from great players gone by and also Dutch coaches are generally brought up to play a certain style of football that we'd all like to see at Portman Road. The next manager, regardless of nationality, will hopefully be able to provide this side with an attractive footballing ideology, an emphasis on youth, and maintain strong links to the community. Of course, for this to work and realistically achieve promotion, the new man will need patience and money. In the meantime, I'm content to see this McCarthy side battle for promotion because, after several years out of the picture, it's just nice to see us competing in the upper half of the table.
