I'd agree with most of it. We weren't particularly good, but I never felt Forest were better at any point in the game. A point was probably fair.
My thoughts too Kiwi, it wasn't a brilliant performance on both sides, I had to listen to it on net and even Whelan mentioned it wasn't a brilliant game..... We did leave our midfield open again for a lot of the game, and I'm still convinced of the reasons why Redders persists with Sharp and Morison, especially after what he said in an article on Antenucci, Redders doesn't make realistic sense. Our defence continued to soak up the pressure from attacks and, as I've always rated him Berardi had another good game. I know a lot don't rate him, and some continue to judge him on his red card 35 games ago, but I've always seen the abilities in this player from day one; personally, I think he should go back to RB as Redders may drop him once Austin and Byram are fully fit, and N'Goyi isn't far off. Whelan, who I rate as a "not bad" commentator has always been critical of Silvestri and openly said he doesn't like keepers, interesting comments considering he's not, nor has ever been a keeper actually gave Silvestri his personal MOM. I played keeper for 35 years straight and at a fairly high level, to understand a keeper, you have to be a keeper; it's not a position you can be taught, you're either born one, or aren't. For me, we still have the same problems in midfield and attack that we've had since the Sunderland game, these need to be strengthened if we are going to push for promotion next season.
I don't think anything Redders said about Antenucci is off; he's a good player and no manager wants to lose good players. He was rightly dropped for a poor run of form but he deserves another chance. Our defence is looking as good as it's been for a long, long time. Berardi did play well yesterday, and I do think there's a player in there, but that recklessness and aggression does need to be curtailed at times. Two red cards in a season is irresponsible, whatever way you look at it, and he's only played 16 (?) games! Putting him at RB would mean Taylor would have to go back to LB, and Redfearn would inevitably put Mowatt back to LW - yes we potentially have Montenegro who could fulfil that role, but the squad balance needs to be addressed desperately. I actually thought Silvestri had a relatively average game yesterday. His kicking is never great but yesterday it was appalling, and he has a tendency to punch instead of catch. It's okay if you're punching it into a safe area, but Silvestri doesn't always do that. He did keep another clean sheet though so he deserves some credit.
Antonio ran Beradi ragged and he would on any other day have conceded a penalty for the rugby tackle at a forest corner. Wtf were you watching.
I just said he needed to curtail that recklessness and aggression. Antonio's a tricky player and Berardi managed to stay on the pitch, which is arguably an achievement in itself. I thought he did okay yesterday.
With respect we were second best. Down that side for an hour yesterday therefore I disagree with your point.
Hey'up Kiwi, I didn't mean Redders was saying bad things about Antenucci, apologies to all who thought it come across that way, I'll rephrase it, Despite what Redders said about Antenucci, (the good stuff) he still played Sharp and Morison up front, a striker who scores once a blue moon, and a striker who doesn't know where the goal posts are. Rumour has it Morisons next lesson is learning where the opposing goal posts actually are.........him and Austin are going to same classes. Have to disagree with you on this one Kiwi, Antenucci scored 2 against Derby on 29th November, he scored our only goal after 4 mins against Ipswich on 6th December. There were 4 matches leading up to the Sunderland game and then changes began to happen.
With respect, Berardi did his job in stopping anyone scoring from his side, he did a good job..... You must be going soft Chippy, you said "with respects" yet again.....
Fair enough, I still don't see a major issue though. We've been winning games and picking up points with the current side, yes now is the time to rotate and mix things up, but Antenucci's an experienced footballer, he must be patently aware by now that forcing your way into a side in form is difficult. Sharp and Morison have played their part in our run (although playing Morison out wide makes no sense whatsoever) so they are there on merit, I suppose. Antenucci played in each of the six games after Derby, including the Sunderland game. He scored once and we failed to win in that period. After the second Derby game, we were 20th in the table, one point above the relegation zone. Something needed changing, and desperately. We did change it, got very lucky at times and now we're comfortably in mid-table. Now is the time to reintroduce Antenucci and the others, but I think relying on those whom have experience of England, the Championship, and most pertinently, relegation dogfights in the Championship, was the correct decision at the time.
Redders reasoning for Morison at RW ... http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2015...ison-selection-decision-tried-targeting-not/? Sounds logical in isolation. But what about the midget against the 2 towering CBs in the middle?
Redders must be being put on spot a few times, he seems to be explaining a lot of things. I can see the point you're trying to make Kiwi, fully respect it, don't agree but fully respect the point..... Morison is a striker, he hasn't scored and doesn't look likely to score; any striker not being picked is going to get frustrated after seeing Redders continually pick a striker that ain't scoring for 18 games, and for 2 years. Yes we're safe, but far from convincingly. Many fans are split on Morison, some say he should play cos he puts in a shift, some say he should be dropped cos he can't scoring. Our defenders put a shift in every game, and includes a lot of undo pressure, but they create an impact between'em. Picking Morison for the number of games he did put more pressure on a midfield to score, as if they don't have enough problems already. For me, a player has to create some sort of impact in the team, that's why managers pick'em, but there's no impact from Morison, he has less than 1.1 shots per game. You know my thoughts on Redders so won't harp on'em, but this is not a team that will gain promotion next season, or even be in playoffs in my opinion. Changes and rotations I agree with you, but should've happened earlier so we can get back in the habit of scoring multiples goals in games on a regular basis, we have no venom up front, and we have no striking Cobras head from midfield.....
To add my two cents (bearing in mind I ain't seen a game since Boro) I'm ok with Morison playing if he is putting a shift in which it appears he is. Thing about management though is that its all about your proactive decision making imo. rather than the reactive decision making. Yes we have been getting points on the board but there is a very very obvious problem within the side, the goalscoring. This needs to be addressed regardless of whether you are picking up points or not. Now I do not want the system changed whatsoever because it clearly is working now and I don't agree with the idea of playing people because we don't have much to play for, you should be going for the win every game imo. and that means attempting to pick your best 11. Morison IS NOT doing enough to warrant a start, at least not every week and neither is Billy Sharp. Something needs to be addressed in the final third of our game and playing the same 11 every week just because they did a job (and it is purely just a job they are providing, hard work but lacking in technical ability) for you the week before is not going to do that. I know how I would change the team around personally but at this stage he really does need to see changes to the final third of the team need to be made, even just the one or two and I highly doubt that is going to affect our stronger defensive record. To me, its ok if a striker isn't scoring as long as goals are coming from the team and the striker is involved in that but we are not scoring goals. We score the odd goal from a freekick or a long shot or something.
For what it's worth, I'm not really a fan of Morison, or Sharp for that matter. I do like Antenucci, but at the time he was as useful as Morison in front of goal (okay he probably wasn't that bad, but I can't recall him looking particularly potent), and we weren't tight enough at the back to compensate. I can understand if Antenucci and the other strikers are getting a little frustrated, but they're professional footballers and I'm sure they understand that we were in a relegation scrap and the players playing consistently at the moment are the players who got us out of it. Would Ant and the others have achieved the same thing? Possibly, but we can't be certain. Morison isn't the answer, simple as that. But he put in some good shifts, occupied defenders, ran the channels and created space. Ultimately goals are the only statistic that matter, but I for one will be grateful for the work he put in during a time I seriously thought we were going to go down. The issue I think Redders will have now is that he has a formation that seems to be picking up results, but Morison is the only striker who really suits it. Cani might, but from what I've heard he's not exactly setting the world alight in the development games. At the moment, the only player who looks like scoring a goal is Mowatt.
a striker has to score goals, its his job Moro doesn't so drop him, Cos he puts in a shift, well stick on a CB upfront, If we dont score we aint going to win many.
It's not that Morison puts in a shift, he leads the attack well, he can receive the ball and lays it off well - that makes the formation work. The problem is what kiwi said, we appear not to have the striker we need for this role, as Morison can't score and the others don't gut the role
We have had five strikers at various times this season, and all of them have gutted the role. The common denominator for 80% of the games is the Barnsley buffoon. Redfearn will hold us back..... Time to go.
