Rugby 7s is the only form of rugby which isn't appalling for that very reason I think.

Another reason why American Football is better than rugby:

In rugby turnovers are due to penalties or someone dropping a pass, i.e. someone making a mistake. In American Football, they're not (generally)

Well in football possession is often given away by a mistake. Does that make it a **** sport?

It seemed way more of the turnovers came from penalities and dropped passes than not from what I watched.

I am just trying to think about how many sports would have to be cancelled before I'd watch American football...all of them, I'd guess...including cheese rolling and tiddlywinks. Don't bother trying to tell me I need to understand it...I haven't that many years left.

Murray playing later...that's my evening taken care of :)

That's pretty incorrect I'm afraid PL, turnovers in the NFL are mostly generated by mistakes, probably 80%+. It's much more subtle, can be a receiver stopping one step shorter than they should have done, but they are mistakes and important ones nonetheless.

To be fair, American Football is fairly easy to understand once you hear the rules. Let me demonstrate by explaining the gists of it in less than 200 words

    1) There's two sides on the pitch at any one time, the defense and the offense
    2) The offense has 4 attempts to get 10 yards or more - they can either throw the ball or run (or a combination of the two)
    3) If they don't get more than 10 yards the other team gets the ball from where the ball is
    4) If they get more than 10 yards in 4 tries or less, they start again from the new point and have another 4 tries to get 10 yards and so on
    5) Usually if after 3 attempts, they haven't made 10 yards, the offense will kick the ball because then when the other side get the ball, they start from further back
    6) Once a ball is kicked, the other team (receiving the ball) can catch it and start running to the other side of the pitch. Where they are tackled is where their drive begins (i.e. they have 4 attempts to get 10 yards from that point), so it could be quite far down the pitch or maybe not far at all

The scoring system's basically the same as rugby with different terminology and point values.

And after every PLAY they have to stop and think about it for a few minutes just so that the sponsors can sneak another advert in and the American public can gather their teeny-weeny attention spans together. :D

Not the NFL/ Rugby comparison crap again. Both are totally different apart from the ball shape.

The Americans actually wanted to play football in 4 quarters so they could introduce advert breaks. FIFA said no :)

My Uni lost our Derby Day today by quite a bit as well. Although it was the no1 trend on uk twitter for a bit, small blessings.

Essex, our derby is UEA. Presumably for proximity. I don't really buy into it just yet but maybe I will after a few years here.

I had to reread that as I thought you meant United Arab Emirates...that would be stretching the idea of a derby somewhat :)
