Did anyone else have the misfortune of watching this last night? There was what was essentially a 10 minute advert for the PNL show and - **** me - how bad was it? Regurgitated old jokes - Max looked at some small people and said to Paddy (I **** you not) "how far away are they?", an old man 'hilariously' dressed as Britney Spears in schoolgirl garb. Laugh? No I didnt. **** me.... Did anyone on here go and, if so, was your overwhelming feeling upon leaving 'well I've just paid for them to retire".
Everyone involved gave their time for free. ALL PROFITS went to comic relief. Only the expenses were covered by tickets, and that didn't include wages. http://www.comicrelief.com/news/phoenix-nights-raises-more-£5m-comic-relief
Ah right well I stand corrected then, it wasnt the impression i got last night. Ignore the last line of my original post then, but it still looked ****ing terrible.
£5 million to comic relief, not bad. I went and really enjoyed it but you need to see the full show and context of the phoenix club setting to get it. Next day went to the Ethiad for the 1-1 draw, great weekend.
What would be the point in an advert for something that has finished?! I went on the second night. Was brilliant. Yes there were some regurgitated jokes but that was just reminiscing about a classic tv show.
I went the first night The one when Ted Robbins had a heart attack, collapsed, and the show got cancelled. Some funny bits but some fairly boring IMHO , although obviously difficult to comment on whole thing
Works better as a TV show than a live show. But it was all for a good cause. Kay is supposedly writing a new series. I hope so, as long as it a) brings back Max and Paddy, and b) is as funny as the original (obviously).
I didn't watch that depressing all night spectacular last night but for a Phoenix Nights fan, PNL, as you put it, was brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed all the 'old' jokes and scenes. I suppose it's a bit like watching the Premiership every week. An endless stream of enjoyment!!!!!
Was also at the first night and invited for the replacement performance. Thought it was fantastic, especially the invited back performance as many of the jokes were changed /ad libbed due to most having already part of the performance. Was not nice to see what happened on stage to Ted Robbins though, especially as he was still on him microphone
