Afternoon all Charlton: Henderson, Solly, Fox, Johnson, Ben Haim, Gudmundsson, Buyens, Cousins, Bulot, Watt, Vetokele Subs: Dmitrovic, Wilson, Gomez, Bikey-Amougou, Eagles, Diarra, Church Blackburn: Steele, Henley, Henry, Baptiste, Spurr, Conway, Williamson (c), Cairney, Marshall, Brown, Rhodes Subs: Eastwood, Taylor, Songo'o, Spearing, Lenihan, Evans, Gestede So as expected Vetokele returns. The only slight surprise is Ben Haim displacing Gomez in the side. Good that Henderson's injury last week hasn't prevented him playing today. COYA!
My feeling is it's about time we took three points off Blackburn. Now to see if the team are up for it. You not commentating again Captain?
We're under way. Charlton attacking the Jimmy Seed Stand in the first half. If it does go badly though, I may stop commentary.
Goal Blackburn. Slack marking from a throw and Rhodes is in behind. From the angle he scores. 0-1 I knew I shouldn't be doing this. I'm off.
HT 0-2. Can we pull this one out of the fire second half? Sounds unlikely, but the team seem to have more heart lately so maybe.
Well, we tried hard. Hit the bar twice, and defended like idiots, judging by what I've heard. Back to the drawing board, but while I badly wanted a win today, we're settling in to mid table, and given how things looked in January, that's maybe not too bad. Crap result though. Captain, you have to resist the urge to commentate.
The entire back four were dreadful and all 3 goals are gifts. First one Solly puts the ball out of play straight into Blackburn hands who throws onto pitch where their forwards are both free, absolutely ameture. Second Johnson messes up. But to be fair every ball from kick off went backwards and buyens plays a ball possibly with a bit too much force but Johnson should still do much better. Our goal another gift their defender allowed the ball to run vetokele gets ahead and is flattened by goalkeeper no red as defender whose mistake it was covering goal. Blackburns third I would say Henderson's mistake. Ball put into box directly through middle with a chipped ball which was deflected by buyens head. But goalie was incredible slow off line and allows Rhodes a tap on virtually as no defender tracked him. Having said that we had our chances but poor finishing particularly from watt meant we were not getting any points. Vetokele unlucky with his two efforts off the bar but the game had a feeling of end of season mid table battle. Reg had a poor game too. Church goal would have been given if ref hadn't touched the ball in build up and fox gets booked for a challenge which a Blackburn player did in first half with no booking. The sub's were made to late as well. But we are cleat from relegation and this result a month back would have had fans going crazy.
Not much to add to what Carrian has just said he sums it up well. Had our chances at 2-1, didn't take them, were punished for it. At least we have Blackpool on Tuesday
Defence was a mess is an understatement. I said on Twitter I wanted Gomez instead of TBH, but even Gomez wouldn't have saved such a shocker. TBH out of position for the 1st, Johnson miscontrol and then failed to handball it for the 2nd (after a shocking backpass), and the 3rd was Henderson not getting out quick enough but also no one going with Rhodes. Thought the pen was a bit lucky too, have seen plenty of them not given. We were poor, but Blackburn weren't much better to be honest. Season didnt really have much to do, it's over for us pretty much, no relegation or playoffs. Just got to beat Millwall and I'll be happy with this season.
Collectively possibly the worst defensive shift of the season. The season just drifting out towards nothingness now.
They were sitting near me. Normally I hate that sort of thing but agreed they were hilarious. Very good natured too.
The irony is, despite having ties to liege, the Gent fans invited Charlton fans over there and it grabbed a lot of people's attention. This was in the pub after the game, and someone's trying to follow it up on Twitter and Facebook now.,
