i'm probably asking the wrong crowd as most of you are from scotland and more likely to be seen wearing a black plastic back..however, i have 2 weddings coming up in the next 3 months and want to look the bees knees.

i've avoided wearing them in the past because i thought i might look like a prick.

how much should i be looking to spend on a decent one and how much would it then cost to get it tailored?

You can get half decent ones in M&S etc, that'll only cost you about £250, but if you get a tailored one it could cost you just about anything.

How much were you expecting? I think supermarkets do them in Britain too, they would be a lot cheaper I think, but I shouldn't think the quality is up to much.

if you know where to look you can pick up a decent suit for £100

i wear suits for work and tend to buy from outlets

try tk maxx or bhs or marks

these days tailoring isnt an issue if you know what size you are or simply just try on different ones

people pay for labels but often these days the quality isnt that much different

If you've got one nearby, try Slaters (or you could use their online site). I've bought suits from there before, the quality is excellent, and they'll make adjustments for you for free, for the lifetime of the suit. If you're quite slim, they do slim-fit ones to start with. The prices are pretty reasonable too, with plenty under £100, service was good too.

And if you want to be really clever, they don't have a specific limit (so long as it's not adjusted), on how long you can have it before returning it, so use it as a hire if you want!

    depends what you like

dont dismiss it by the photos try them on

i like the 3 button jobs, my old man hates it and buys a 2 button number

it may suprise you but the quality is as good as the more expensive stuff

its all about the material and what you find comfortable. i dont like the heavy wool numbers

ah that's a good call. i'll have a look for a store because then i can try some stuff on rather than go by measurements that are to ****. i presume they have a "not take the piss" limit on when you can return it? or will they let me return the suit in 15 years time after ive had my moneys worth<laugh>
