If they'd been kidnapped , hypnotised or drugged or something, I'd have some sympathy. Apparently though they were intelligent sensible girls, and as such they planned and calculated their actions over a period of time. They may be classed as brainwashed, but they chose to start listening, chose to communicate on twitter. They could have closed twitter accounts, switched off computers and phones and talked to parents etc, -- but they willingly have made their choice.

Not only should their citizenship be revoked but their families should be deported too. Not just for failing in their parental duties, but for failing to condemn the actions and instead demanding apologies and basically being arseholes about the whole thing. Knobs.

If they then come out and try to blame the authorities rather than condemning the actions of their children then by all means punish them too. I would have no issue with the family if they had come out and apologised for what has happened and said they don't condone what their children have done. But just like all the Islamic world leaders, there is a clear refusal to condemn these actions and atrocities, which is frankly a disgrace to the religion.
