Angel Di Maria needs to leave Man Utd to save himself – but Louis van Gaal is to blame for his slump
After his sending off against Arsenal, Paul Parker says Angel Di Maria needs to leave Manchester United if he is to return to the player he was before.

Manchester United's Angel Di Maria looks dejected
I don’t know how Angel Di Maria can recover from his ridiculous sending off against Arsenal on Monday night. Can things really get any worse for him at Manchester United?
He probably felt that when Michael Oliver brandished the yellow card for diving he was effectively calling him a cheat – and when someone calls you a cheat you want to punch them. That, wrapped up with all the focus on his poor form, is maybe what sparked his reaction.
I’ve never seen someone grab hold of a referee like that. I don’t know if it was borne of sheer embarrassment at what he had done, or whether it was sheer frustration which just summed up how it has been for him at Manchester United over the past six weeks.
[CAN LOUIS VAN GAAL SALVAGE MANCHESTER UNITED'S SEASON?]
He has had his house burgled, his form has dropped badly and for a player who hit the ground running when he arrived, it now feels like he has had his feet tied together by Van Gaal. A year ago he was coasting with Real Madrid and on the way to winning the Champions League; now he’s at a team who are playing like they are bottom of one of the worst leagues in the world.
United have been awful. And when you suffer the lows after such big highs, there are only a few people who can deal with it and Di Maria is definitely not one of them at this moment in time. To be honest, I don’t know if anyone can blame him.
The only way it is going to work out for Di Maria, he only way he is going to get back to being the player he was before, is to move on. The way things are going at Manchester United, he is not going to progress as a player because the team are playing horribly and you can’t see how that situation is going to change.

bit harsh that.... well it says "team are playing horribly" and "now he’s at a team who are playing like they are bottom of one of the worst leagues in the world.
    United have been awful"

well actually it reflects more on parker "he only way he is going to get back to being the player he was before, is to move on" thats running away from problems which is not what big players at big clubs do.

utd need their big players to stand up now.

di maria was very luck oliver pulled a yellow cos he grabbed a ref and it should have been straight red and 3.

rooney is doing his usuall hot and cold sreaks. right now coming up to england games he is hot again.

utd just need to go with a set 11 with wilson up front, rooney at 10, get mata out on the pitch, blind and herrera and carrick behind that.

play a proper 4 man defence....

de gea in goal.. thats win games.

utd's next 5 will define their season. back in the day we would have said if utd only got 3rd say.. and won nothing it was a failure... now its not for sure 4th is possible but they are up there for it.

if they take 4 points out of 15 thats a disaster. of they get 10 out of 15 thats good enough.... with lfc, spurs, city and chelsea in the 5 they have to go some now. de gea and rooney and mata imo are vital.

De Gea has kept them in the race. Without him, they'd be toast. Rooney has been wasted so the injury to RvP may be a belssing for them. Not sure why Mata hasn't featured more tbh, esp with Di Maria in and out of form.....and being played in the wrong position. They tried a proper 4 man defence earlier in the season didn't they.....tbh, whatever formation, they are soft in the middle of defence so will concede.....this has improved recently tbh so I can't see the dutchman changing anything <ok>

Rooney shouldn't be captain. He wastes so much time defending his team's dives to the ref. But Van Gaal has ****ed the team up so much there is no one else. The midfield simply doesn't exist and the defence is constantly changing.

Van Gaal should have bought a good midfielder and a good CB, but instead he spunked almost £200m on squad players and has written off the £37m spent on Mata. That's almost a quarter of a billion pounds of failure under his management.

For me it's Lovren or Falcao

Looking down the league it could have been Ideye until recently.

Balo and Shaw are close but both suffering from management and injury issues.

Lovren has more clean sheets than Falcao has goals and his 4 year deal costs about the same as Falcao's 1 year deal

I'm not sure if how bad Falcao has been qualifies how bad Lovren has been.

To both sets of fans both have been crushingly disappointing... Lovren has cost us lots of points and was simply pathetic at times. That 'clearance' vs United for example. Dire.

Every player makes mistakes..the question is "Is it a forced error". I remember the mistake Toure made at West
Brom that costs us 2 points. What about Gerrard at Anfield?
If the mistake is a forced error you cannot blame the player.

Falcao has scored against Leicester (win), Stoke (draw), Aston Villa (draw) and Everton (win)

He is supposed to be a #worldclass striker. At no point was Lovren called a #worldclass defender.

How many times a season will his old team play a backpass to set him up? Probably not enough for £16m <ok>

Falcao still can't get a game and Man Utd play the best game of their season without Di Maria holding them back
