Being linked with a loan move to Norwich City. Also linked with Derby County. With Grabban injured and Becchio out of favour, is he worth pursuing?
Aren't we linked with Rhodes so frequently it's starting to become white noise. It would actually be a clever move for Blackburn. They will go neither up nor down and could get some money for the loan and save on his wages, then at the end of the season they coikd sell him or not.
On the rumour itself, with Grabban out indefinitely and the end of the month being the last opportunity to bring anyone in, I would think singing a striker would be a good move. Recon we could get better for cheaper though.
Any suggestions? We can rule out any striker in a team in the top 8 of the Championship I would suspect, that doesn't leave many strikers that are regular scorers as far as I can make out. A non-playing PL striker? I can't think who From overseas? - No thanks, not with our track record. From L1 or L2 - too big a gamble possibly, if looking to take a top 2 place.
Really? I can't think of a single striker of Rhodes' pedigree (i.e. proven Championship) who we could get on loan. The real sticking point I imagine would be whether it would be with a view to buy in the summer and how that contract would work.
Rhodes? Again? In all honesty a loan wouldn't be a daft move by any means, but he wouldn't come cheap to sit on our bench. You'd think that for whatever it would cost we'd be able to recall Lafferty for less.
It would be a wise move, we need more options in that department. We're going to miss Grabban's workrate and running, the guy absolutely wares out the oppositions defence. We need Hooper or Jerome to go on a bit of run, Grabban was scoring goals for fun before his injury, Jerome is still one of the most prolific strikers this season but has hit a bit of a mini drought, would be great if they could find form again.
'if Blackburn were to let Rhodes go, they would want a clause that included an end-of-season permanent purchase of around £12m.' not sure we'd want to agree to that.
Should we go up, then as with last time DM and the manager (Chris Hughton, not Paul Lambert) are going to be caught between a rock and a hard place. What we have for options in the PL is probably not going to be enough for survival (i.e. one striker that is capable of double figures), so 'pushing the boat out' in an attempt to compete may be the only way forward I fear, and even Jordan Rhodes is a gamble as unproven above his current level, but could be the best option.
Ah ok, cheers I wouldn't be surprised if there's some truth in the concept though, albeit not the actual amount they're demanding.
I personally have never had an issue with Rhodes. My issue was with those who constantly said we were going to/should try to sign him when I knew the club had no interest in him at the time. It got very boring. I think a loan move would be a decent piece of business in terms of competition for places. I think if given the right service he will score goals at any level. He offers nothing else though, so if given no service is a complete waste of space. In our current system I'm not sure where he'd fit in though. Can't play on his own so would likely be with Jerome. Hooper is a much better footballer than Rhodes.
Are there any strikers in League 1 who have been banging them in this season? I'd rather get someone similar to Grabban in if we get anyone. Rhodes is obviously good at this level but he is very much just a finisher of chances rather than an all round striker. Not a bad thing but it doesn't feel like he'd suit AN's style of play with the high pressing and high work rate.
When is the loan deadline? Must be soon I guess. This sounds like an insurance policy in case Jerome or Hooper pick up injuries - which to be fair wouldn't be that unlikely as both have spent time on the treatment table this season, and Hooper much of last. If I'm being honest I'm not sure we really need Rhodes should both stay fit, but if one does do a hamstring or something to rule them out of the campaign then we'd be in trouble so this sounds like a pretty shrewd move to me - if it is just a loan with no obligation to buy in the summer that is. A load deal makes sense, it would show real intent to our rivals, and as others have said I can't think of a single other available striker, proven at this level who would be able to hit the ground running in this division for the run-in. Or, we could try to sign that Daryl Murphy bloke for the rest of the season, he'd do a job as a big lump up front if we were chasing the game in the last ten minutes.
If we sign him on loan, Derby don't. They are in great need for a striker, so Rhodes to them makes sense. But, should he go there and score goals that get them promoted, I can hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth on here. We surely must be seriously considering a loanee to guard against the unthinkable of completing our last few fixtures with just one fit first team striker.
I don't see him as an AN type of player, he's a one-trick pony that offers nothing else to the team, we'll be a ten man team hoping that the eleventh man scores!
Biggest plus would be denying Derby his services, like others, I'd be surprised if he was a AN sort of player. At the moment he can't get in to the Blackburn team, why I don't know? But he does bring goals and whilst it seems a big if, if both Hooper and Jerome get injured he would be very handy. Look at how Derby's form has suffered for the loss of both their main strikers. Cost of loan that might not be necessary vs prize money upon promotion we might miss if we lose 1 or 2 more strikers to injury? I'd be happy either way sign him/don't INWT Bah!
