Throughout the season, even when we were winning, I kept asking myself two questions, and kept getting the same answer If we fail to get promoted this season, would I trust Mick to change his philosophy and his style of football and take a more modern approach to the game? Unfortunately the answer is a resounding NO If we somehow manage to get promoted and ME gave him a war chest of £20million, would I trust Mick to recruit the necessary personnel needed for us to stay in the premier? Again No Would I want Mick to be in charge of us in the top flight? Again the answer is No Quite simply, everyone can agree that Mick was a good championship manager and a crap premier manager In my opinion Micks style of football is old fashioned and jaded, and has become a sort of dinosaur in the game We need a modern manager with nous to change tactics when things are not going our way There is no room for sentiment in football, so ME should start planning now and draw up a short list of managers What ever happens between now and the end of the season Mick should be put out to pasture in May and let someone come in who can take us the next level
Totally agree, big thank you to MM for saving us from the ignominy of third tier football, but he really isn't capable of taking us further.
Completely disagree lets write off the last two years, have some other mug take us down to league 1 and be stuck there. SUPER MICK MCCARTHY. Frustrating manager but he has my full support, christ after what Keane and Jewell did I can cope with this season thank you!
" What ever happens between now and the end of the season Mick should be put out to pasture in May and let someone come in who can take us the next level " Yeah alright lets pay off the remainder of his deal, get a new manager in and completely start again................ " Mick should be put out to pasture " If you're going to do a rant at least speak English.................! What in gods name does that mean? " Would I want Mick to be in charge of us in the top flight? Again the answer is No " You don't want Mick to take us up this season? I'm fed up of taking apart this thread - I suggest support Bayern Munich or Barcelona, Ipswich Town really isn't for you.
"Put out to pasture"..... It's when knackered old horses are not up to the job anymore and are put on grazing fields to live out their retirement. Oh, and I completely agree with the OP, I've been saying the same all season, in fact, for the last two years. MM is not the man to take us to the next level, promotion or no promotion this year.
Haha fair shout I will take some egg on my face for that one we learn something new every day hey! I think we can all agree with the following * season one saved. Fair shout Mick * season two built - outside shot of play offs, fair shout * season three - Until January - Mick McCarthy how the hell have you got this lot into this position!? However - last 10 or so .......... Mick has got plenty wrong. Plenty. Right back - Wrong. Tabb - Wrong. Frontline at Leeds - wrong. Overuse of hoofball - wrong. If season three ends with us failing to reach the play offs - I won't be happy but I would be interested at what season four has instore. I think Mick's done a great job and perhaps my post in anger was a little harsh - sorry. We're all entitled to our views. I just think generally Mick has done a great job on a shoestring budget and I'm happy for him to continue to do so. I can't hide behind the £££££ argument too much though - it's obvious to all we need a wide man or play 4-3-3 with this lot. I cannot defend Mick in this in any way shape or form. He chose to not sign wide men, so SURELY we HAVE to play 4-3-3 like we did earlier in the season when we were a nightmare to play against! Still, onwards and upwards, bring on the Boro. PS - " MM is not the man to take us to the next level, promotion or no promotion this year. " Would that not be taking us to another level!? Surely if he takes us up, he should be given until January by all. If people still won't get behind him should he take us to the Premier League I really think that's way off.
I agree with most of the criticisms regarding McCarthy, but to suggest that he failed to take us to the next level, even if he achieves promotion, is simply an illogical and absurd line of reasoning.
Think we are getting ahead of ourselves, after all I am not even sure that MM is the man to keep us in the play off race let alone move us forward if we ever did go up! Our current form (last 12 games) is bottom six not top six...that sort of run is more than a dip in form, that is quarter of the season!
Tell ya what, if its true that MM told Town fans to F OFF, then i think he could be in a spot of bother!! You cant start swearing at the fans, without the fans your buggered, just shows what a prick the guy is, still, no doubt there will be plenty who still back him!
Every club Mick has managed the fans have turned against him, all for the same reason, this is no coincidence To quote someone far more eloquent than me ' it's the hope that kills you'
Was he referring to the fans reaction or his reaction to the fans? Can't possible be the way we are performing, or is he really that deluded
Can I ask a question of everyone on here, how many of you think we will make the play offs, with hand on heart?
Yes, but it won't be pretty and a section of fans will have turned on Mick by the end of the campaign.
We won't make the play offs if we continue with these tactics....we are to narrow, just watched the Brentford goal back and just as last Sunday we had nobody looking after our width, only difference this time was both the delivery and the finish from wide positions were not defended we had gone to compact!
I think its possible to get to the play offs as we never get beaten soundly and we seem to plod along BUT if we do get there I cant see us having the adventure to overcome any of the other teams over two legs. Take yesterday, Went ahead and after that never really went forward with any real intent.Brentford were pressing all game and we got worried and dropped deeper, took off our threat and were hanging on in the end. Not that Brentford really battered our goal but they sensed they could get 3 points and kept going for it. Away from home against a promotion rival they kept 3 up for our corners and we kept 3 back with them. We won a free kick after about 75 minutes and had 6 players being the ball! Thirty yards from their goal out on our left hand side. The free kick taker and goalkeeper obviously but then 4 others behind the ball. For me set pieces are where we are strong yet we were too concerned about what the opposition could do to try for the winner. I can understand respect for the opposition but at some point you have to make them worried about you, especially at home. Its a mentality that I don't buy in too. MM does not go out to win games. He goes out not to get beaten and too often that means we drop deep and let other teams into the game.
