I'm predicting a point minimum. Can't believe Alex Revell is a Cardiff City player... If anyone is bored and following the game from home my article 'Charlton Apathetic' is available in the latest Late Tackle magazine, available in all good shops and WH Smiths. i think there's a tablet version too but the physical edition has that nice cheap musty paper smell.
Lepoint in, Vetokele. Diarra and Eagles all on the bench (Wilson nowhere). Looks like Luzon is not going for the win but for le point. Strange one. Lepoint must have looked good in training.
Ridiculous. When did we last score three goals in a match? Didn't we get a surprise win away at Cardiff when they were storming to promotion two years ago?
Half hour gone, nearly all Cardiff but few real chances. Bad news is Henderson injured. May have to come off.
More bad news. Millwall losing at home to Norwich. They are 8 points off safety with 10 games to play.
Henderson off at half-time. Don't know what the pitch is like, but it all sounds abysmal, especially by Charlton. Fox getting sorely tested by Noone but nothing coming of it. 1-0. Macheda.
End of the season stuff from two teams with nothing to play for. It is going to be boring for the next ten matches. Millwall will be as good as down by the time we play them so even that won't liven things up much. Church on for Bulot. Love to see him get one in Wales. Vetokele clearly unfit. We have now used all subs. Watt 1-1. Charlton commentators, who are usually wildly prejudiced in our in favour, claim Johnson was offside in the build-up.
Charlton doing better with two up front and the hapless Lepoint off the pitch. 85 mins. Church wins penalty. Buyens chips in 1-2.
Get in 2-1 Buyens pen, all those draws earlier in the season are looking more and more costly, playoffs would be on the cards otherwise
Superb win at the sound of it, was out all day so only came in to see Watt had scored and then caught the last 15. Glad Church got a go, and won a pen, giving Igor a rest clearly for the best, hopefully it all good. What happened to Hendo? Mr Luzon, at this rate I'll apologise, don't like how you were hired and we were lied to, and you were sh!te to start with, but I'm pretty happy how it is going, keep it up.
may echo some comments already here. i applaud luzon. not often we win 5 in 6, while rotating the team and dealing with some pretty bad luck in the injury department. what he's doing well in putting trust in players and putting them in their natural position. i didnt want him to do well when he was appointed. but i'm so glad he is.
Well done to all the players, Guy Luzon and of course the board for appointing him. Another excellent win away from home with the right tactics and formation of play being used in the circumstances.
Can anyone confirm Lepoint started up front? Not surprising we ce from behind once he was off the pitch. Great result though - we don't see us coming from behind often. Yoni Buyens probably the most composed penalty taker we've ever had?
Just back. Luzon's starting eleven was very odd. Lepoint seemed to be tasked with getting forward to support Watt, a role he is clearly in no way fit for. He lumbered around the pitch, fouling all and sundry, not once winning a header or offering any form of support to Watt. It was noticeable how much better Watt became once we brought on someone to play up front with him; however brilliant an individualist he is, he needs a strike partner to be at his most effective. Luzon deserves credit for doing that, but you have to ask why we started 4-5-1 against a distinctly average Cardiff side. The first half was awful, and I don't think either side managed a shot on target during it. The second half was better, and it was perversely a good thing that we went behind, as it forced us to chase a game we had seemingly been happy to draw. Dmitrovic didn't exude half the confidence with crosses that Henderson does, and I hope his knock isn't too serious. Macheda made the most of this defensive uncertainty to put Cardiff ahead, at which point we brought on Eagles for Lepoint. Immediately we began to cause more problems for the Cardiff backline. Church then replaced the ineffective Bulot, and a minute later Johnson pulled the ball back for Watt to stroke home in the box. Now we sensed this game was for the taking. Church received the ball in the box with his back to goal and as he attempted to spin away from his marker was upended for what looked from my vantage point to be a clear penalty. Buyens had a poor game overall but you can't knock his penalties, which are always taken with an almost impudent coolness. Thereafter we were seldom threatened as the defence stood firm. One misplaced header aside I was impressed by Gomez, and Johnson looked solid. Fox mostly did well too, and we never have to worry about Solly. JBG had one of his quieter games, as did Bulot, whilst Cousins and Buyens just about did enough to thwart Whittingham's threat. Watt was unplayable in the second half, partly because Church and Eagles helped take defenders' attention away from him. He's clearly a natural showman, but crucially has the ability to justify it. Overall it wasn't the greatest performance, but it is an impressive comeback win nonetheless.
Cheers, Cap'n. So Luzon has succeeded in winning a game despite starting LePoint, seems he kept him on long enough to persuade Roly that he really is useless, before taking him off and getting on with the serious business of getting 3 points. Nice to see scapegoat Church come on and win the penalty. With players like Bikey and Igor being dropped Luzon has shown that no-one is bigger than the club.
