Daily Mirror (I know) are saying this but a glimmer of hope maybe. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...mptons-arsenal-transfer-target-morgan-5280171
"Pah. £60 000? Je ne peux acheter une voiture decente avec £60k. Vous me insultez." You read it here first!
What we do will only have a small affect on Morgan...it all depends on where his head is. Once you have made your mind up, it would take something major to change it. Extra money only works if he is truly equivocal.
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/429185/Southampton-deal-Schneiderlin-Arsenal Just another article saying the same thing, but why did someone suggest that Morgan had already signed a contract with Arsenal. How would that work when he has a contract with us? He could presumably sign a contract starting when his Saints contract ends, but how would that help Arsenal. A lot could happen in that intervening period if we said no. And strictly against FA rules. Not denying his agent may have encouraged the Gunners, but no way anything official has been done.
Not saying this has happened with Schneiderlin (yet). But think of it as verbal contract. Everything agreed and official and way before the actual move . You just have look at the Shaw deal to know this goes on.
That was different, we needed to look strong at the time. Morgan 99% is going, we just have to hope the 1% is enough, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.
I haven't. Won't be surprised if he goes...despite feeling hard done by, he has knuckled down and done his best for us. He's a good lad. We will really miss him, but, like everywhere in life, money is a powerful anaesthetic
It all depends on where we finish I think. To have any real chance of keeping him, we need to finish, certainly in the European places, but most likely in the top 4. Even then, it will be a tall order. Money is irrelevant really, as Arsenal can pay him way more than £60k, if that is what we will offer him, and he would be pretty much guaranteed a starting place as they are woefully lacking a defensive midfielder. He fits perfectly for Arsenal. Not trying to be a doomsayer, but he does, and the only surprise will be why he played 3 seasons with us in the PL before somebody pushed the boat out to sign him.
I expect people were interested in Morgan, but they had to deal with Nicola. He was known to theatrically bin offers for players in front of them.
Do you think if I showed him my French kit with his name on the back he'd be more likely to stay? He should be our highest paid player as he's easily our best imo, and young enough not to worry about losing it anytime soon.
Nope, where we finish doesn't matter. The only that will keep him here is if no bid comes in (yeah right) or if Morgan decides he likes it at Southampton too much or if the club that bids isn't seen big enough by Morgan.
Nicola did like he did with a lot of other players (Shaw for one). Told them to stay for another year or two and sign a longer contract, so the club get more money. So not really denying them a move, just delaying it.
And then he left and Morgan missed out on a verbal deal. Tough...but I've managed to wipe away my tears.
