Is there any other sport that has so many meddling outside pressure groups trying to dictate behaviours within it?
Probably not, but if you want the profile and money that football has you have to expect it to become the focus of issues like this. For what its worth I'd happily ban some neanderthal that thinks he has the right to degrade woman for his own amusement.
If you ban this then they should be consistent and ban all abuse i.e. almost all chanting so no negative chants against other managers (Bruce has a big fat head), players (Jimmy Saville is Dean Marney's dad), fans (who's the w*nker in the hat), officials, clubs etc. I do not condone some inappropriate chants but most is just for a laugh and is often what makes the atmosphere at a game. The problem nowadays is that there are some groups that cannot tolerate any kind of negative comments without it being labelled as discrimination. I get called all sorts of names and i just take it (mostly) in jest and try and give as much as i get. Maybe they should just order us to sit quietly and clap now and again for good play and a goal
I really don't see how screaming 'show us where you **** from, you ****' at a trained medical professional adds to the atmosphere at all.
There are more women in all 4 stands at City than ever before and even more came with us on our Wembley trips and I’ve never seen a problem towards them or from them at football. Personally, within reason (no racism) a football stadium should be a free hit to take the piss out of opposition players, manager and the fans. If I shout and swear at the opposition fans during the game I don't expect them to take it personally and be waiting outside for me likewise I wouldn't take anything personally against me. We are enemies for 90 minutes then outside the ground it should be everything forgotten we are just a group of people again.
The problem is what is abuse to me might be just banter to another person. Where do you draw the line?
Can gay fans make similar comments about players? But any 'isms' that don't have their own laws are okay? Isn't that discrimination? Can gay supporters comment on a gay players arse?
Fat, ginger, bastards, buggers, sods, southerners, French, tall, northerners, druggies, rapists, peado's, bombers, gypos. It goes on and on. If 'abuse' is wrong, it's wrong, the law shouldn't discriminate.
I'd also add, the singling out of football for this attention is also discrimination. They're members of society that go to football. If there's a problem, stopping them expressing it at football doesn't address anything. Football's pretty much got its house in order. It's society they need to look at if they're serious about addressing it.
If that doctor was in her practice and a man said the same things to her, he could and probably would be reported for harassment. The fact their in a crowd at a football game has actually worked in their favour here, surely that's exactly the opposite to what your implying?
Why do you and they discriminate football from any other crowd? They're members of society that hold those views. Stopping them going to football doesn't change that, as football never created it.
Your entirely correct, society creates these views not football. However if someone chooses to express those views publicly they should be dealt with equally and right now you can express those views at a football game without repercussion whereas if you were to express them in the street you'd be punished. Surely if you agree that sexist abuse is wrong then it really doesn't matter if their a football fan or not as long as their dealt with.
What other sports or walks of life is this behaviour replicated in and/or tolerated? Genuinely never ever understood why seemingly normally respectful people think they can act like utter ****s in a crowd at a football game, and it's OK.
