We all know that Douche is looking to make our club break even and this will inevitably end in selling players for a profit, so it got me thinking come summer what will happen. The only player that we have I think he will sell in summer is JBG as I can definitly imagine Premiership clubs being interested in him and think he will turn a nice profit for him, but other than that I don't think anyone else will be gone. Teams I don't think will punt for Vetokele as he had a 3 month scoreless run.
Personally, I don't want to sell any of the players we could potentially sell for large wads of cash (Igor, JBG, Watt etc), but I fear you may be right. I hope he'll be inspired to sell the players we don't want, build by getting more good players in (plus long contracts for the two recent additions) and make money by being promoted and establishing ourselves in the prem. I don't expect to be consulted though, so I'm just going to try and enjoy the current mini revival, and hope it blossoms into something good.
The skinny lad bringing up the rear when the Academy did a lap of honour was Archie Edwards. Wait until he fills out a bit and we'll hear a lot more about him at LB or LM. The dream team in 2 or 3 years- him and Holmes-Dennis on the left.
Firstly, there isn't any real question as to the "if" of it. Charlton have always been a selling club. The only questions are who and when. Gudmundsson would be a good addition to any of the mid table Premiership clubs. I don't think Igor would cut it at the top level and regardless of how well Watt does in the next three months, he's tainted goods and would be lucky to get a move upwards. He's more likely to move sideways to another Championship club, albeit a more ambitious one where he could be useful to them for a promotion push next season. Players coming in..? Don't hold your breath for anybody of any quality.
That is delusional. In fact, we don't have anyone who could stake a place in a Premiership squad, let alone team (discounting those clubs who are going to be relegated). Cousins is our most valuable player, being both consistent and still young enough to improve, but even he would struggle to make a Premiership squad. How many chances is Poyet getting? The one exception who has done well for himself is Jenkinson, a solid (though less than stellar) player, but I think he has been very lucky (or astute) in finding the right slots to fill. Gudmundsson reminds me a bit of Stephens. At times looks a class above, but too often fails to pull his weight when things are going badly. Some posters said of Stephens that he would play better against better opposition once we got out of Div One. Well, he didn't, and he is now with a club below us in the league. Same would apply to Gudmundsson. He is too slow and lightweight to manage the Premiership and at 24 cannot be expected to improve that much more. With the pick of players from all over the world, the game is very hard and very fast there in addition to superior skills. I cannot see anyone paying more than 1.5 million for Gudmundsson. That is not Premiership level. On the other hand he could do well at the top level on the Continent - Holland, Belgium, maybe France.
I wonder who advises Roly on player sales? On recent form Cousins' value looks as though it is on a sharp upward curve, and by the end of the season there could be a few tempting offers on the table. Will he have the long-sightedness to resist them? A key decision.
When I just said Cousins is our most valuable player, I meant he has been making the biggest contribution to our points total, not that we could sell him for the most money. He is not "flashy" and might not attract too much attention except from larger Championship clubs who would know more about his consistency. I cannot think of any club who would pay more than 1.5 million for him at present. If Roly is going to sell our best players for as little as that it will show he has learned nothing from the Kermorgant debacle and we might as well give up all hope.
No, but I think that will have changed by the end of the season. This is based on his improvement since Bob left and he was put back in the middle where he belongs.
It's all a matter of opinion, old chap. Personally, I'd rather we didn't sell our better players at all, but I've seen 'em come and I've seen 'em go. I remember one old terrace sage telling the (at that time) young and impressionable me that the young whippersnapper Bonds wouldn't last five minutes at West Ham. Armchair managers, eh..? What are they like... Tsk...
I see Forest have announced a loss of £22.9m for last year, and are now in debt to their owners to the tune of £48m. You could say that the Al Hasawi family have lent them that money, or you could say they have invested it, depending on your point of view. The modern trend is to call for owners to make an "investment", which means lend the club money to spend on players. Sounds much better, doesn't it? What happened to the calls for us to invest in a big lump of a target man? No, I prefer to use the word "loan", because it has to be paid back, and even if you go into administration part of it has to be paid back. Most of Forest's loss was due to a huge wage bill, and eventually the **** will hit the fan and they will face an uncertain future. So, yes we are a selling club, so I hope that when we do have to sell we get silly money, like Palace did for Zaha.
Their answer to everything was buy, buy, buy. Big contracts, expensive loans, paying managers off. They have money, but no stability.
If they carry on like that, then very soon they'll have neither. A fool and his money soon go their separate ways.
Could we all get the majority vote, and sell RD for a couple million ?? Sometimes my logic is pure genius ! Must be the 'convict' roots......
