On the trophy count now, and ours are a more elite collection League titles: Chelsea 4-2 Spurs European Cups: Chelsea 1-0 Spurs ECWC: Chelsea 2-1 Spurs Super Cups: Chelsea 1-0 Spurs Uefa Cups: Chelsea 1-2 Spurs FA Cups: Chelsea 7-8 Spurs League cups: Chelsea 5-4 Spurs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_football_clubs_in_England_by_competitive_honours_won
Has to be said, that's a pretty impressive FA cup record Spurs have. Was even more impressive in 1991 when they last won it as well. But we've done well to over take them these last few years.
European Cups: Chelsea 1-0 Spurs Sung with gusto to Spurs at yesterday's final.... You'll never see that You'll never see that Champions of Europe You'll never see that
If you are counting the Super Cup, then you have to count the Community shield too, as the Super Cup is more or less the European Equivalent of the Community Shield. Which would make it 25-24 in our favour still. Wow Spurs have won 7 Community Shields! Didn't know that. Must be from all those FA Cup wins. Personally i dont count either as a major trophy so I make it 20-17 in our favour
It's been what, 12-1 since Abramovich took over? So you were quite a way behind then before you started making overspending by £50-100mill each season
Just think though, it was very nearly Spurs that Roman bought. How would your guys have handled that?
It would probably be the same with roles reversed for the most part. Well actually the gap would be far greater because of our previous trophy record and the fact that you were teetering on the verge of doing a Leeds at the time It's not something I want to happen to us. There's nothing wrong with supporting a club that's not winning loads of trophies, especially considering what it takes to win regular silverware these days.
Not saying there is mate. I wouldn't be supporting Chelsea otherwise! Prior to the last decade, we were lucky if we got one every 10 years. We had a little spurt in the late 90's with 2 FA Cups, a League Cup and a Cup Winners' Cup in the space of 4 seasons but other than that, we were in exactly the same boat.
23 years without a top trophy and one Champions League appearance is poor for a self-styled big club.
Depends what a big club is relative to. Surely spending so long in the top division makes you a big club in the grand scheme of things. Really you can set the bar where you want. A fan from a side like United might argue you're not a big club because you've only managed one decade of successfully competing for top honours. Personally I don't care how you define it and whether we're included in the definition, it's a debate I have zero interest in.
I remember us saying that when we were as schit as you lot while jealously watching United, Arsenal and Liverpool sweep all before them.
Nothing. We turn small profits and small losses each year and continue to compete with clubs that have a far greater spending power, whether it's got by greater revenues or a thief on the run from the KGB
....Chelsea have competed for and won top honours during the 50s, 60s, 70s, 90s, 00s and 10s. We've also not had many seasons outside the top flight of English football since 1905. If I was you I'd also argue with a Man U fan that the Spuds won the FA Cup before them and as a non league side.
I wasn't saying you didn't win anything in those decades just that you didn't win a lot on the whole. You'd never have been considered one of the top 2 or 3 sides in the decade based on most of those records whereas United were almost always up there. Yeah, we also won the first double as I recall. I don't think it in anyway puts us on a par with United though. I was just making a general point that all that you can argue plenty of sides aren't big clubs when you set the bar to where ever suits you.
