Committed and gets stuck in. Quick. Strong. Good first touch, comfortable on the ball. Ready to take players on. Gets past defenders. Good link-up work, holds the ball up and brings others into play. Eye for goal. Great rapport with the fans. And still only 21. Which means he may have an off game from time to time as most young players do. But also means he has massive potential to get even better
On today's form he looked to be the first premiership quality striker we have seen at the Valley since Darren Bent. He was unstoppable. You won't see a better performance by any prem striker on MOTD tonight. It was one of the best performances we have seen in a Charlton shirt in ten years. Tony Watt is a monster talent and if he keeps up that form, when he leaves the Valley it will be for £12 million plus. What thecampaign of abuse and character assasination against him when he first signed was all about, heavens only knows. I've never known a player to be so maligned before he signed for the club; it was the most extraordinary, relentless and totally unfounded attack I think I've ever read. We all knew Watt could play from his Champions League appearances for Celtic against Barcelona and Chelsea. So why was he subjected to such pathetic and cowardly trolling?
Our resident European football expert over on ITTV is choking on his 5th fray bentos pie of the evening given his assessment of Tony Watt. The Wrexham Wipe is now threatening to beat someone up ...in China. It is hilarious reading his postings on a Saturday nite much better than anything on telly.
Do you think it was because Guy brought him to Charlton as I kept reading post after post about his bad attitude but all he wanted was to be given a chance, now he' s got that Watt is flourishing and is an exciting player to watch and adding a defensive element to his play when needed.
It was patently obvious to anyone that does not drink Tenants in the mornings, that Tony Watt had it in him. If you watch Belgium football as little as I do you will know that he did not fit in. He was a lost boy and despite reports that he will be the worst signing ever, and gets knocked off the ball by a fart, he is very strong, has a great first touch. When he made his Debut for us, it took about three minutes to see that this kid had great potential. What was clever was Luzon knew he was a quality player and did not give up on him. He will strike up a Mendonca/Hunt partnership with Ventokele which will be worth watching if allowed to grow. The moral of this story is don't listen to fat obnoxious Wikipedia warriors
Whoscored.com had Watt and Fox in their team of the week. Watt had the highest rating of all players at 9.95.
Is that the same Tony Watt , who was described by the sad anorak who reckons he should be Charlton's chief scout as follows : "He is knocked off the ball by the wind let alone an opponent, He has no pace, he has little ability and cannot take players on and get passed them. One of the worst ever CAFC signings. What we lack and what he offers could not be any further apart.I don't think I have ever seen such a limited player. He is not going to improve our shortage of goals, not a chance and a three and a half year deal is astonishing, total piss poor management." Then on Feb 24, this same scouting genius wrote of Fox : "Hopeless footballer, **** off back to your pub team you useless bastard.Opposing managers see Fox coming a mile off he is that ****, free him in the summer he is a liability and is not good enough for a career in the game." Four days later on Feb 28, Fox made the championship team of the week. Duchatalet, Meire and Luzon should listen to this nutter. I mean really hang on his every word. Providing they then do the exact opposite , we will have a helluva good team on out hands!!!
That idiot should have his own tv show. It a working title only but something like "the things I say while drinking tennants extra" Even funnier is the pitiful backtracking which is like listening to a teenager that shat the bed.
He'll be after you on his cowardly keyboard, full of hollow, blustering threats that if he ever sees your ugly mug blah blah blah. Last time I looked he was threatening to smash up a (fellow!!!) Charlton fan with words to the effect of "it's lucky you live in China or else I'd have you".
"I would back myself against anybody in terms of knowledge of Belgian, Dutch and French football, I would be happy to give Katriene a list with the names of 5 players." It is beyond parody so I've said my final word and will leave him to get on with his peevish liitle life. Meanwhile, I cant wait to see another dose of the no-hopers Watt and Fox at the Valley again tomorrow night!
Reams sounds a very entertaining chap. I'm almost tempted to join ITTV just to encourage him. I've worked beside a couple of pathological liars whose tales became legendary. These rare people should be treasured for the jollity and entertainment they provide, and are missed when they're gone.
It's beautifull. When he signed he was generally regarded as another dip into the bargain bucket by our owner (I was among thoes slating RD's tight fistedness). Now the worry is how many seasons we can keep hold of him before the crazy cash that is the Premiership come ringing to take him away. If we can maybe bring in a bit more quality around him and Igor in the summer, maybe we can mount an assault on promotion next season, but suddenly, I'm actually worried we may lose a key player for big bucks. Never saw that coming back in december.
Since I last wrote on this thread, Watt has shown application, desire and discipline. Three big boxes ticked there. His goals against the Udders were of very high quality and he looks as though he could do a good job long term for Charlton in this league. How things pan out for him from now on is something only time will tell. Tony Watt, you've made a better than expected start. Well done, now keep going.
Another Stella performance from Tony Watt. This is the sort of player that CaFc have not had for about 10 seasons. The last player that I thought was this interesting was Clause Jenson. Still send him back tho, he is a lightweight, scared to take on defenders, the worst signing......that will make me chuckle till way into next season..... I wish the silly bitch on talk sport would stop calling him Tom Watt tho - isn't that Lofty??
If he keeps it up, he may one day be as useful to us as this guy: http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/31729667
