This has just been posted on twitter.

Make of this what you will #SAFC fans but Steve Bruce has taken the number 9 shirt from Campbell and left it open.

could a new striker be imminent? especially with all the seaham hall/defoe rumours flying round!!

could mean bot all aswel but thought id share the message!

A new top drawer striker is on the cards, has to be. I love little snippets like this. :)

if we were to get those in i think it would complete a perfect pre season!! it could also tempt people who stopped their season ticket to now renew!

there seems to renewed optimism flowing through the fans at the minute and it would be tremendous if we can start getting full houses again!

Poolie - we've got nearly as many midfielders as Liverpool. Can't see us buying another.

One more signing, a forward, and that'll be it I reckon.

I agree to a point but hey if a better player than the ones we have is available at the right price lets buy him, i would take kranjcar but i do think a forward is important

i would still like Defoe and kranjcar here this russian could also be a possibility but would like a PL proven scorer

i think instead of creative midfielder we need a left winger as weve got no one who can play there aswel as a forward.

when i saw the tweet i instantly thought wickham but apparently its not gonna be him!

Theres plenty more surprises left in this transfer window yet I would suspect, I would doubt one more striker is all we will get.

    Welbeck (Loan)/Defoe/Krancjar in,

    Mcartney/Nos/Kilgallon/Steed/Noble (loan) out.

Apart from Noble, who will buy these players and pay the wages they will want?

Its an absolute certainty that a recognised top flight striker will be wearing the number 9 shirt for us come August.

I think the player will be a high profile one and will have been waiting to see our squad building outcome.

Come on Brucie - 4 stars for your summer sso far. Make it a 5 star summer with a really high profile 20+ goal a season striker.

I've just seen a photo with Brown wearing the number 5 training shirt (a vacant squad number)....on second thoughts I reckon the training gear is the ACTUALLY the squad numbers for next season

Campbell is supposed to be out for most of the season so perhaps that is the reason he has taken the no. 9 shirt off him. He may not even get into the 25 until February when they are allowed to change the squad after the winter transfer window is closed and then it will depend on how he is recovering.
