I must say I am a little worried about the game tomorrow, not least it being Matt's Last picking up 5 cards on Tuesday, AFTER there was 4 against Sheff and in the previous 4 /5 games only a couple ! hopefully the tension will not be there ... MS trying for a send off but not a sending off! And the rest keeping calm 1-0 will win a game and Rochdale have the 7th / 8th best away form equal almost to SHEFF
Like most games in this league, get an early goal and we've won the game. But as the game keeps dragging on without a goal it will get nerve wracking. Swindle, MK and Preston all have tricky away ties, barring being unlucky not all of them will win, we can open up an even larger gap.
My only worry is coming on here before a game and not finding a post from JGF giving us something to worry about
You are a great on for stats JGF, so where do you stand on this opinion. The League One stats for yellow/red cards is very interesting. There are two tables, Cards accrued by clubs and Cards accrued against clubs. http://www.football-lineups.com/tourn/League_One_2014-2015/Stats/Discipline/ I consider it is significant that City are at the bottom end of both tables. Yet look at the table for cards accrued versus Sheff U, Swindon, MK Dons and Doncaster. Are they at the top of those "Sinned Against" because teams go all out to rattle them with late tackles, shirt pulling and all the well known ways of breaking up the rythmn of the game? Or are they there because they are adept at inducing fouls or very good at play acting a la mode of a Kevin Davies? When I see that Doncaster's manager is Dickov who as a player was a nasty little ****, always niggling, moaning at refs and never afraid to leave a foot in. And many City fans know only too well how Swindon appear to be the Kings of Diving and play acting, I know where I stand. So, I do not believe that we are a "dirty" side. For all his talk about being a winner, SC has not shown one hint of encouraging his team to flirt with the dark side in the way others apparently do.
Don't worry about last week, the ref was poor and lost the plot. Having thought about it and watched highlights, can't see how some of those cards were justified. Have been to a few games now and watched us perform superbly but results are all that matter now. As ugly as you like as long as we remain in the top two places. Some reality!
really? Cider..I did do a reply on the thread but if you look at the teams then one would have to say from Cities expierience, they are not the most sure footed of teams!!!! Credit to City they get up and continue to play...! I think I also cover the other with my concerns as to a sudden 9 cards in 2 games when we actually have a lot of games with no bookings, Donny 8 Sheff 6 Swindon 4 MKD 4 have played against 10 men... Swindon endeavour to get early bookings for opponents? then the opposition is likely to hold back on 50 /50's?
Despite trailing to Bristol City – whose defence is significantly more permissive – in the title race, MK Dons, Preston and Swindon stand apart as the three most dominant clubs in the division so far. this statement is based on attack and defence regarding shots taken or defended.. our defence allows more shots at goal!!!!!!!!!!!!
While statistics can be manipulated to say whatever you want I have long argued that City have had a great deal of fortune this season. I would not say they are in a false position but that they have had the rub of the green in several games this year. Long may it continue. Personally I was so convinced that we would lose against Sheffield United that I had a punt on them at 3/1.
* Top of the league.. * 5 points clear of 2nd place.. * Lowest number of matches lost in league 1.. * Highest number of matches won in league 1.. * 7 points clear of play offs.. It's like Cotts said, " An 11 match season left " - I think we are in a great position and I'm not being over confident..
You have to be a gas head, I've never known a city fan harp on all gloomy trying to find all negatives. We won 3-1 on Tuesday and to you it's been constant talk about bookings. Every month you've done a thread stating how hard it is for us etc. Either gas or gloom merchant. Glad I'm in Wiz's camp on this one
this was not my phrase, and it is not negative, it indicates in the main we take our fair chance of converting shots to goals and the defence is "in tune" with their ability to not concede from shots bombarded on to poor old Fielding, but "allow" / force the opposition to take chances from further out so less on target! The others have more shots not converted but the aggression is making them ..but not to count..
Sorry just fed up of negativity. I'm at the gate today, takes me an hour to get home so should be back for kick off. Yes I did get told off, but sometimes it's down to the one who tells you off, if you choose to listen.
Statistically speaking we are top of the table by 5 points and will still be top tonight, despite how many efforts on goal, or yellow cards by Preston or Swindon.
Don't worry we won a squeaky bum game and it's 3 more points in the bag. MK Dons lost and Swindon drew so not only a win but a slightly wider gap at the TOP for us.
Mike - Also, Sheff Utd drew and Bradford lost - not that either team is going to trouble the top 2. I firmly believe it's out of us and PNE for the title, but there's a lot of football to be played yet and we have to go to Preston. We've now got 3 tough away games to come against 3 teams in the bottom 4 who are fighting for their L1 lives before we take on Gillingham at home. The toughest part may be yet to come but while we keep winning we can't be caught
