Good list. Yashin, Zoff and Shilton all great leaders. Oliver Kahn, goalkeeper and one of the best captains I've ever seen. So still Green for me.
Would like it to be Zamora, but think it will be Rio if he's playing. Someone mentioned Adel, but there was no reaction from anyone. It would certainly play to his ego although rather like Rio, he doesn't really deserve it.
If Adel was made captain, I'd go very close to boycotting the team. If a brat of a child is continually throwing out the toys, we don't reward him with a new pram or toys. I would of offloaded him and or paid him out long ago. He'll lose us more games than win .................. but hey, what do I know?
So that's where my parenting went wrong.......if little Billy wants an Uzi to protect his crystal meth distribution network, who am I to crush his creativity and entrepreneurial spirit?
Who would have thought it, lessons in parenting courtesy of Adel !!!! DT will have to start breeding all over again so that he can do it the Morrocan way.
I think you are right. I been trying to think of someone better but as Harry would have said it's d.......... to find a good candidate. I think Barton should and will get it back when he returns, but I would have preferred someone with his drive, but more calm. I'm not sure Ferdinand's heart is with the Club for him to be Captain, long term anyway. Don't reckon a keeper as Captain, and don't really see Green as one anyway. Henry is in the right position and plays regularly, but he seems too quiet, same with Kranjcar. Austin may be good bet, but he has enough on his plate already with scoring the goals. Furlong could be a Captain of the future, but not yet.
From what I hear about Green, and the time I met him once, he seems the sort who likes to keep himself to himself a bit, and quite quiet. Happy to be proved wrong but not really a captain in my eyes, which doesn't detract from his quality performances this season, probably his best for the club so far.
For me, the best qualities for a captain are someone who is a good role model and leads by example and who also is vocal. Dunne leads by example but he's a quite chap and he's not vocal and doesn't have that quality of being a true leader. Green is very vocal but I feel we need the voice to be coming from someone out on the pitch with more knowledge of all the different positions on the field. Rio... obviously he can be captain material but he's not performing, he's inconsistent and he hasn't always started. He's also new to the team. I would prefer someone who's been here longer and has played more often. Henry is a good example... he's not TOO vocal (it can be annoying if someone is just shouting all over the place in every moment). He's starting regularly and is a person who leads by example. He's a good candidate. Another good candidate would be Krancjar, in my opinion. He's a model player and has all the right characteristics, as well as being the calmest player on the pitch. The only reason why I wouldn't pick him is down to the fact that he either doesn't play every game or he often is substituted in the latter stages of a game. I think Fer would be a good shout as he would step up and become more responsible if given the role. I think he'd rise to it. Alas, he is injured now and we're not sure when he'll be back. To be honest, Barton was the perfect choice apart from his occasional lapses into bad behaviour all of a sudden. I won't be sorry to see him go this Summer. So, I think this leaves Henry as the best candidate. Vocal, not too vocal, good role model, plays hard, professional, experienced and lots of knowledge. He's also playing regularly and, now that Barton is out for a few games, MUST start each game.
