You do know, when you say "we" here, that the Local Council is a completely unconnected organisation to Hull City AFC don't you?
Given I am pretty sure that I saw Daryl Stephenson in the Allam's box at Saturday's match I think that is highly unlikely. Someone is playing games here.
The Council owns the Stadium. As I understand it, Assem wont pay for an extension unless he owns the stadium, and won't speak to the Council for whatever reason. If the Council sees an extension as the only way to develop the area/ground (and possibly help the club grow) and know Assem won't give them the money then they do what they do for any other project - ask interested parties to see if they are willing to contribute, whether it's the Government, Yorkshire Forward, the Arts Council, Heritage fund or whatever. I don't think that asking the Premier League is stupid - as already mentioned, you don't ask you don't get. The only potential issue is not speaking to the club. But are we certain they didn't try?
Wonder if Fewey is trawling HDM archives for that picture of the Allams , stood in a melton field, holding the plans for...........The KC Stadium !!
Yes, I think it might well be an option (remember none of us actually know, do?) when you take into consideration the intransigence of the current owners and what might be their (HCC) determination to change their current position regarding the Stadium lease and the SMC. It might look like an inane action, but one that once done can be dismissed as a future option - I don't see what harm it has done, except a bit of internet ridicule, but I can see that the council have definitely fired one across Allam's bow; it might be innocuous, but it might well be just the first, as I said. I tend to give these people the benefit of the doubt and consider that they are not as daft as this would appear in isolation. Your suggestion might be limited in the circumstances they are working within. But then again, you might be right and I might be wrong and if that is the case then perhaps they should sell to Allam and let him run Hull at the same time.
Why would you talk to someone who snubs you when the requirement is only a courtesy and not a legal requirement? Allam has probably been treated as he richly deserves and that might be a part of the message from HCC.
Andy Sinton was in the Directors box as well, so he must have known all about it as well, not to mention the steward showing people to their seats.
If you can't see why asking the PL to fund an extension at the KC is stupid then it is pointless trying to explain it. How could the PL be described as an interested party?
A lot of posters seem to be slating HCC for said letter, I wonder what the reaction would've been if the move had paid off ? Pappa Allam would've been rubbing his hands, for 1 and some posters on here would be on E Bay looking for a left handed mouse !!
I do just think this. I've put some information together and come up with 6. I have made it clear I may be miles off but to me it all makes sense. The SMC talked to the Council about the RBS mortgage and the warranties on the stadium. It is possible that the discussions were amicable and led on to other areas. The Council want to develop the West Park area and has made a number of approaches to Assem Allam to achieve this. It may be this time they actually sat down on talked about the future. Assem Allam was aware of the mortgage when he bought the club, it was on the public file at Companies House. He paid it off last season thereby removing one of the obstacles to surrendering the lease. The SMC is losing money. The only was to make it profitable is to increase the rent to Hull City thereby reducing the amount to be spent on players. The costs of maintaining the stadium are likely to increase, especially if the repairs are not covered by warranties thereby increasing the costs. We've had a merry dance about the poor return from the lease and the lack of community use in the HDM all thanks to the Council investigation. Council control will mean the £2 million or so that Hull City pays to the SMC will go the Council who will be responsible for maintaining it. Even Hull City Council have their spin doctors. The creation of the new Council owned leisure company will make it easier to raise finance, including the £20 million needed for the extension as well as paying for the new swimming pool, ice rink and other things mentioned in the HDM over the past few years. Assem Allam gets to pay the same rent and dumps the liability for keeping the stadium spick and span onto the Council. The Council get to develop West Park and Adam Pearson gets a new landlord, one he's done business with in the past. I may be wrong, but to me it makes sense.
The slight problem there is that the move was never going to pay off. Anyone with half a brain would know that. Which of course rules out most of the council knowing.
Not wishing to rain on your parade, but you've listed 7 points and they cover the full spectrum from certain, trough highly improbable, right on to pure fantasy
As far as I'm concerned the stupidity of sending a begging letter to Scudamore is not the big issue. What I cannot get my head round is the unbelievably discourteous and inappropriate exclusion of Hull City in the process. Without the football club there would be no Premier League in the City and it is only Assem Allam's money that has made that possible.
He's made it clear he doesn't want to to talk to HCC, so why should they go talk to him? Yes Allam's money that he's lent the club and is getting back.
Cheers I don't live in Hull these days and I don't get to pick up the crumbs in the press and paint a picture. I rely on forums to do it for me!
