Sorry don't buy that ....if you can't do it in training or a reserve game why should you be given a start ahead of people who do train and play well.....?
Weighty, I do agree and I cant say that I know anything other than what I see in the first team picture but every player we have used out wide has been poor in an attacking/ crossing/ running with the ball sense, which suggests that either we only sign crap wide men or MM prefers us to play with a more conservative approach.
It's probably a bit of all that......I think MM would like to have a couple of consistent fast flare wingers and then keep it tight in the middle....but that's a different argument. MM has to pick the best team he can to do the job......so I doubt he would gamble on the fact that someone that is cack in training and reserve games would suddenly become Ronaldinho in the first team.........I know some good players are reportedly poor at training but those players have already proven themselves over and over again.
McCarthy loves traditional wingers. BUT we don't have the firm base required to play two attacking marauding wingers sadly. Check Wolves. Kightly + Jarvis with Karl Henry the destroyer. We don't have that pitbull in midfield. They also had more solid full backs than us. Mick builds builds and builds. I would imagine should we not go up this season, our wing play next season will be night and day different from this. Not that helps the quick fix! Anderson revealed he had been instructed to play differently than how he was used to.
Morning chaps, Town fan living in Leicester here. Was discussing this with some city supporting mates last night and they mentioned that Knockaert is much more effective when playing behind the striker as he's not as quick as people think. They're all gutted about losing him too. I think he'll be more than useful, it's just where will he end up playing most- on the wing or behind the strikers?
Welcome Towny Another tractor boy exiled in Leicestershire My biggest concern is that he will end up spending most of his time on the bench, though I'm sure even 20 minutes cameos off the bench will persuade even the stubborn Mick McCarthy to play him more regularly. Will be chuffed to bits if this happens, will probably be a better fit for the team than Joniesta and shows the ambition that the fan's have been crying out for
Cheers King! Been a long time casual watcher of the forum but decided to push the boat out and get involved. I agree, that's my concern- he's a proven great player at this level but whether he'll be as hard working in training as MM likes I'm not sure. I think he's probably more versatile than Jonny because he can play on either wing as well as up the middle. Not that Jonny couldn't but on the rare occasion I saw him pushed out wide I wasn't convinced. Obviously have to wait and see if it's confirmed that he's coming but I'll love seeing him in a Town shirt!
On TWTD a few minutes ago... http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/26903/knockaert-expected-to-sign-later-this-week
How about this as a line up against the Budgies! Bialkowski Parr Chambo Berra Mings Skuse Bishop Knockaert Didz Sears Murphy
That would sure be one hell of an attacking line up! If we're going to go down lets bloody go down fighting!
In all seriousness if we lined up like that ever, we'd either steamroller sides or get battered due to having a total lack of steal in the side!
Cheers for the warm welcomes JWM that lineup would be insanely attacking. If anyone was at the game (or heard it at all on Radio Suffolk) last night- how did Sears play? I know he grabbed a couple of goals but was he playing as a striker or just behind? Can imagine if AK comes in MM might not play both him and Sears. Who knows though!
