Okay, I took liberties with the title, but Koeman is saying that players leave Saints sometimes for non-football reasons. Also mentions trying to talk Chambers out of leaving.

 

Who is he ****ing kidding.

 

It's all relative I guess, but I hope that Saints are one day seen as such a good side that no one can pretend they are moving for anything other than money reasons. No more of this ''I couldn't turn down the chance to go such a big club as (insert name)'' with the subtext that Saints are chopped liver.

 

He is basically pointing out that on current form after more than 20 games this season there is no footballing reason for, for example, clyne making his rumoured move to man united in the summer.

I am not sure the comment can be applied to those who return today since at the time Liverpool had finished 2nd and us 8th. They had stability and we did not.

But this summer...

 

Exactly this. Plus it's a pointed reminder to players like Chambers that they're better off playing actual football at a club like Saints fir a few years, not jumping immediately at the first pot of gold.

As it happened Chambers got match time because of injuries at Arsenal, but Koeman was right about his development. Arsenal is far from the worst club he could have gone to, but they do have previous for holding our youngsters back at least initially. And they keep injuring them.

 

I thought they came for the lively arts' scene and cosmopolitan culture?

 

As hooiveld says, it's for the tropical paradise !

 

If you look at the money we received for the 5 players who left in relation to actual games played by them this season, it is the best bit of business I have seen the football club make.
Now Chambers might want to ask Ox in the 3 years (is it) since he left Saints 1. How many games have you played for Arsenal in that time against how many games you think you would of played if you stayed at Southampton. And 2. Do you truly think you have progressed further as a player with Arsenal than you would of if you stayed at St Mary's.

I personally believe he would be a better player now and have won more England caps and I think I will be saying the same about Chambers in 3 or 4 years.

Money and Big Club combination = Nice house and numb bum bench time.
