Truly ambiguous but I wouldn't blame Charlie for that. I certainly read it first in a contentious light, evidencing frustration by Joey's team mates (which was expressed well by Clint Hill's expression at the sending off, as highlighted on MOTD.). However, I now think that the more conciliatory interpretation, as per the majority of posters above, is probably the correct one. Charlie's latest tweet seems to confirm this.

Well, I see Chelsea have the audacity to appeal Matic's red card, if they are successful, maybe we should put in a cheeky appeal as well.

I think he should win the appeal. I don't think the FA will though.

Horrendous tackle and Matic reacted in a way most of us would have done. It was only a push, but I suppose retaliation is a red.

The tackle should have been a straight red, but you have to leave it to the ref to administer justice. As soon as you chase someone and raise your arms you will rightly be punished, and also make it less likely the original offender will get a card.

Bet Barton sat on his own on the coach home. Sounds like Charlie is saying he's said sorry and doesn't need to keep doing it. Move on.

MOTD showed a wonderful shot of Clint Hill on the touch line, just as Barton got his red card. His roll of the eyes was a mixture of frustration, annoyance and something which suggested "same old Joey". From this, you might conclude that some of the senior and/or longer-serving members of the squad are a bit fed up and might communicate that to Joey.

The down side to all of this is that Barton will return and possibly disable our chances of playing football. Thank god we have Henry who can protect most players that play in front of him. Have to hope Sandro comes in if not it has to be Kranky pulling the strings. Barton is a willing runner I have always said that

I don't see his return as strengthening the overall team play

Henry will step up now and I believe CR will go on the front foot anyway … you sit against Arsenal and Spurs at your peril … trouble them and we have a great chance of getting points at home. Spurs looked awful and when we play them they would have played away to Fiorentina, a capital cup final and then the Swans who will pass them to death. Its could be good.

Spurs then will wake up after what could be a exit from europe a cup final defeat and getting beaten by us
I see them beating the Foxes
    I see them beating Burnley
I see them beating Tim and his Villa

I see Spurs being good for us whereas the Arsenal can't hep us much apart from beating Sunderland

Barton could be back against Everton at home the team he supports … smells like crap either way

36 points to win we can no longer win the league after his sending off we will have to settle for Europe

I see the FA are not going to take retrospective action against Barnes for the original tackle, they apparently can not re-referee a game and have decided that Atkinson dealt with the incident in real time........yeah right!!!!!!

Is it just me or has this been blown way out of proportion, a flick of a finger translates as typical Joey going mental?? Its people like Shearer who couldn't wait to lay into Barton on MOTD as to why there is so much negative media on what warranted a yellow at worst

God help us if we are relying on Karl Henry. Cost us big time at Stoke and must be odds on to be the next rangers player to pick up a red (how did he get away with that tackle on routledge?). The trouble is that Sandro and Henry loom like the same player to me; i.e. Break it up and give it. If we are going on the front foot we need a midfield player who is attack minded. We have lost Fer, so it has to be .........Adel!
