LVG tackled this issue heads on. We had a soft centre especially at home. Average teams were coming to OT and going away with the points. Our players were scared of playing in front our large crowd. Now our team and our players expect to win at OT and the anxiety and fear have gone. Thats a good foundation to build on. LVG himself admitted that the team has not performed for 90 minutes yet. There should be significant improvement to come. Coming back to the OP, fans and pundits should not expect united to play like fergie's team. This is a new team with new players and a new manager. Moyes underestimated the task of taking over the team and the players and get them to perform to their potential. Which led to his poor season.
I honestly dont think anyone is comparing him to Fergie. In fact I think there's a bit of revisionism going on by Neville when it comes to Fergie's last few seasons. He forgets our football was turjid at times and everyone and his wife could see we lacked a couple of creative midfielders/playmakers and add a bit of steel in there also. It's no surprise that our team was on the slide but playing above the sum of their parts. What I credit LVG for is addressing that by bringing in those midfielders. What I find strange is he chooses not to play them...or play them out of position. For me he will be judged on where we finish. If we finish top 4 then fair enough. But if we dont then performances will (and should) be brought up. IF results are the most important thing then surely the ultimate result is finishing in the top 4. And if we do finish top 4 I still hope/expect the quality of our football will improve next season.
oh well. while the days of brown envelopes and howard webb are over, its exciting times as the days of spending 200m a season to buy success begin
You took the wrong turn again LFC45... you want the Liverpool board for that. Well, all except the "success" bit anyway
Bit rich that dippers are suggesting we are living in the past ! The reality is that whilst the football is hardy exciting to watch, I do have more optimism for this season than last. A top four is still within reach, and with LVG having a very heavy purse for the transfer window we should invest in more class players. We all harp on about the defence, but Falcao has been a waste of money, and RVP is looking weary, so we need to look at another world class striker.
