He probably wouldn't get a look in with our squad the way it is, but I'm still bitterly disappointed to see him go. He really shouldn't have said that little "I'd sign for life" speech.
i dont get it, they'll finish below us and surely the cost of moving up there aint worth the difference in what either of us will pay him. 7k a week off the book, but the only player anyone really liked last year now gone
Don't sell Sheff Weds short. Mandaric's money will kick in at some point over the summer, add that to they bought some very good players (not people) like Gary Madine. That said, think everyone knows my thoughts on Semedo. Thanks for your efforts, but we are now going in a different direction. One where we win.
I'm guessing when he said "I'd sign for life", he thought that he'd get another 7k p/w contract. Rumours also say that he would have preferred to stay at Charlton than go to Sheff Weds, but by the time he made his mind up, we had bought a completely new midfield.
Bang on the money Super...!! They have massive support and a chairman who always puts his money where his mouth is. I fully expect them to be mixing it at the business end of the table this coming season...!!
Slightly disappointed that he has gone, and to a promotion rival to boot. As long as they have enough attacking midfielders then he will prove useful for them. Mind you, I'm not convinced Megson is good enough to get them out of the division, seeing as they did almost exactly the same as what we did in the second half of last season. We shall see
It is simply no big loss to us. Let him go to Sheffield Wednesday and slow their play down for them. He was instrumental, along with Racon, in the failures of the last three seasons. We had a boring midfield, with little creativity and certainly no range of passing. Now we have new players, a new vision and most certainly a new style of play. Exciting times for us. Boredom for Wednesday.
No doubt- we have a one up on them as a couple of their targets have joined us, but we know MM's record in getting clubs promoted. I do strangely feel somewhat slightly relieved by this transfer. If they have Semedo in the CM role then, for me, it's kind of wasted. Feel Alonso and Hollands (if they can recreate their career to date), will be better options in the middle. Got more of a low down on Alonso now- apparently loves to sit deep like his brother a pull the strings. If he is 10% of what his brother is then
With Semedo there are a couple of things we have to remember I think we've forgotten He was initially put in CM because our centre midfield had no 'bite' to it, and was easy for the opposition to get through and probably remained in that role because of that continued theory that he was needed there to plug the hole in the middle, even when we entered League One he probably wasn't even needed there but was kept on there anyway. Also when you look at his Charlton stats we see a return of 2 goals in 136 goals even Keith Jones managed 6 goals in 158 games for us and he only ever passed the ball sideways
I wish Jose well, it is always sad to see a fans favourite move on but I will miss the Semedo song more. Where are we going to sign up a Wal-Mart hating song from, Mr Slater & Co will have to dig deep this time. has Chrissy had his scouts working on it, will it need some extra coaching when it arrives Expect frantic action before the transfer window closes...!!!!
Agreed Stu, He couldn't control the ball or defend? part of the "Old Charlton" lets look forward, eh!
I see our PR Department live up to their normal standards on our admittedly poxy newish website. A player who won last year's PoTY and who in four years has never failed to give 100% during any game for the club has been given a small paragraph (about his exit) on the bottom of an article about the youth team. I despair about how many times these people get things wrong and have to question their professionalism.
