Can't help but notice that a lot of activity in the loan market has been going on during the last week or so and it makes me wonder whether we might dip our feet in if necessary. What are the current criteria for loan signings available to us at this late stage of the season? S.C. hasn't appeared to see the need but what happens if we should run in to serious injury issues given that Matt Smith only has a couple of games left for us, and his contribution will be sorely missed. I know Wilbraham is virtually back to full fitness so do you think Matt's appearances will be limited to the bench to give Wilbs more playing time? Is there a need to look at bringing in new loan players or do you think the status quo will get us through the rest of the season?
Not sure what the criteria for emergency loans is Mike, but presumably you have to prove that you don't have enough fit players to be competitive or field a first 11 ? If there are any doubts over whether Wilbs can see out the rest of the season then I'm sure that SC will already have targets in mind. It's the forwards that are causing us all the most concern, but have faith......
The difficulty I personally see, is that players will come on loan if they are given the promise of some first team football. Otherwise they might as well stay with their parent club. The Manager of the parent club would see things the same way. Forget the part payment of wages as that means nothing to a Championship or Prem League club. And as we know, SC only likes players who have done the business in League1. Matt Smith was a proven Lg1 performer. No point in bringing in these fancy dan Chelsea/Tottenham academy strikers as they would have no clue on a wet night in Colchester (no disrespect intended). So whilst Smith is here and Wilbo on the bench or playing, we won't bring anyone in. However, after Matt has gone, I could see us try and bring someone in. That's my personal opinion. For what its worth.
well there is a number of strikers finding homes with other clubs at the moment maybe Matt will go back and we have "his replacement" !
The loan signing window is open up until the end of March ain't it and then you can "emergency loan" if it's deemed needed after that for positions like goal keepers I think?
We actually need 2 strikers, one to replace Smith and 1 as a back up, HOW MANY of you believe Freeman is "a striker" I don't he is good at supply, plays out, but not a striker so take away Smith and we have 2
MK Dons have just signed a loan replacement for Dele Alli. Lewis Baker - highly rated Chelsea youngster. Hope SC has a plan http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31626192
