Let's put it this way, he's a modern day legend in the making.
We haven't had too many players do exceedingly well for us in recent times so it's easy to be a stand out player. Put this into context though and yeah sure, why couldn't he be called a legend in time. He is helping drag our club out of mediocrity, in a team that cost next to nothing to put together and in a time where some clubs in the league have the benefit of parachute payments etc.
Our other legends played in good teams, with many other good players around them so who deserves legend status really?

Speaking about his goal (taken from twtd)

“I didn’t even see the first one go in to be honest with you because my eyes were all blurred and watery, but if it takes a broken nose to score every week then I’d take it,” he said
“They had to click it back in to place. That’s why it took so long to get me back on because it wouldn’t stop bleeding. It would take a sledgehammer to keep me off the pitch at the moment though.”

Tough as nails, reminds me of Butcher

    Legend!!!!................

    ....maybe

Im with Spanish on this. 1 very impressive season out of 4 is not 'legend' status. Hes playing well currently and has been one of our star players this season but nothing more. I just don't agree with this modern overkill of words such as legend/ genius/ hero/ superstar etc. It belittles the achievements and talents of those that genuinely deserve their tags. Fair play to Murphy for improving his game - he is a million times better than the DM that first joined us on loan from Sunderland and his workrate is admirable but I will stick with very important player and no more.

    I will.
Without him we wouldn't be anywhere near close to flirting with promotion, and after the last few years of sitting in the abyss that's worth remembering <ok>

The worst one is the "Great Servant" line... Particularly overused when referring to Steven Gerrard.. A servant to his club that gets paid £140,000 a week (and didn't want to accept pay cut so has jumped ship...)

I have a very different understanding of the word 'Servant'

Now you bring tears to my old eyes Warky...we were indeed spoilt for choice then! I am lucky on here, as I can testify I have seen glorious goals from the likes of....Teddy Phillips, Ray Crawford, Alan Brazil..god some crackers there!... Warky senior, Mariner, Whymark.

As to the question of legendary status, I agree with others that it has to be a lifetime achievement thing, and over several seasons playing...preferably all or most for Town! That said, Murph has been nothing short of astonishing this season. Amazing how he has endured. And, yes, of course we do need another quality back up striker, heaven forbid if he got injured again. Who will step up and keep banging them in?

I am mighty impressed by the new Murph & Sears partnership. What would make my season filled with complete joy is to see Johnny back in there, and Goldy sparking on 6 cylinders once more.

Sorry Westy, I'm going to pitch in, too. Good? Yes, very and bloody ace this season. But it all depends how you assess it. After all, Paul Cooper didn't score many but he stopped one or two, especially penalties, and the sides he played in did quite well... Ditto Clive Woods. If we;re just looking at goalscorers I'd take Whymark and Mariner, but do you really have to count quantity, quality or importance? If it's the latter, and Smurph's goals take us up and onward then fair enough, I'd rethink my view but Roger Osborne scored quite an important one and so did Magilton and Pabs...

Mind you, I'm an old git.
