Living in denial too? Not looking good PL.

You raised lots of negative points "generically" that nobody but you had mentioned. I still haven't read anyone in this thread dismissing women's football.

    As I said, be careful.

Oh dear, what a desperate attempt to try and get one over on us. Youth team games (do Pompey have a youth team again now) have more relevance than the Ladies matches, as at least, the teams are both connected to the mens clubs.
I dont know much about Ladies football, but i know that Pompey play a lot higher standard than Southampton, so will be red hot favourites to win this game. Good luck to them, and hope it is a good entertaining match for you to get excited about.

Usual full answer from Les. We'll get around to it when we can, appears to be what he's saying, whilst appreciating all those support bits and pieces that Saints cover for the girl and women's game at present. I think the intention is there. Just not yet.

And Pepys, can we lay off having a swipe at PompeyLapras, please..? However banterish it might read. I don't think he started the thread to get one over us Saints, because if he did that would be a cheap thrill, and I think he's better than that. And we're better than that.

    Benefit of the doubt..?

TSS, no sorry. He inferred I was derogatory about women's football. I was not even critical (I don't think saying premier league is better standard is being derogatory).

If he feels the need to quote my posts with a diatribe about dismissing women's football, then he's fair game. If he can't control his emotions on the subject then he shouldn't post.

I'm still awaiting my apology from him :)

Well, I'm going to stick my neck out and say that women's top flight football is grossly inferior to men's.

    It's slower
    It's weaker
There is a smaller pool of potential women players than men, so the quality of play has to be lower
It has fewer supporters, so games lack atmosphere
The money available in men's football means that it's peopled by professionals (inherently better)

And before you tell me that women's football had aspects to it that make it oh so subtly different, I'll say that same about Onionman Jr's U13 team. If women's football is worth watching, so is his. And it's not.

There. That's twenty second's thought on the subject. I'm sure I could come up with a longer list.

    Vin

Cast your mind back a couple of months and remember the name Stephanie Roche, remember her? shortlisted for some little award.
The quality is there it just needs the infrastructure to help it grow.

Having said that will I care about the result of this game? No, probably not. It's a derby just not one I care about.

If he had a video camera on him, I am sure Onionman could show you a similar quality goal in oninoman jr U'13s... I know if I had, I could do the same in our U14s

All I was saying was in response to you saying that women's football is inferior to men's football is that it is an unfair comparison and explained the reasons why that is the case. I wasn't implying that you had a derogatory attitude to women's football, just that your comparison was inappropriate. I sincerely apologise for giving the impression that I was suggesting that you do have a derogatory attitude to women's football.

It's just a bit of banter really, a bit of fun. Obviously this thread isn't one to get anything over Southampton as your club is clearly in a better position than mine, but you know, a derby's a derby and there's nothing wrong with a bit of banter!

Thank you PL. I am not derogatory of women's football at all. In about 1978 I went to watch England beat Belgium ladies at The Dell; I loved it.

Interesting point; you phrased a sentence saying I had said women's football is inferior; it is only semantics, but I actually said the football I watch is far superior. Semantics I know, but your wording makes it sound negative to women's football; my way doesn't, even though it is the same outcome :)

A women playing in the men's game would be about as useful as an American Football player playing Rugby Union...:emoticon-0143-smirk..*trying desperately to push PL's buttons*

I didn't know Pompey fans came on here. Seems a bit lame listening in on your neighbour's conversation. No matter - we can all pitch in to buy you Saints' shirt and welcome you into the fold. :)

Oh we've tried that. Maybe not soon, but one day he'll cave in.

When the day comes I'm sure he won't mind taking the title of PlasticSaint. [not original I know, as No1 Jasper will testify]
