With Daryl Murphy notching up his 21st Championship goal of this season for us today, (with the distinct possibility of one or two more before the end of the season), I'm guessing that he must be approaching the number of goals that Holty scored for you in your Championship season under Lambert.

Can anyone tell me exactly how many Championship goals Holty scored for you lot that season? I'm guessing that Murphy must be pretty close to that now.

    <cheers>

holt scored 23 in total, 21 in the league, so i think its a safe bet that he'll beat that before the season is out.

With the pace we have in our team on the wings and with Tettey and Howson I think we will beat Ipswich. Blood and guts only gets you so far.

This is not about being big headed or anything. Just a feeling.

We have turned over better teams than you this season Kempy and after you get humped by Watford next week I think you boys will have reached your high water mark.

Murphy is having a great season definitely. However i'd rather spread the goals across the team at this point of the season rather than relying so heavily on one individual to carry so much of the goal threat.

I start an honest thread comparing our free scoring striker of the current season with your 'talismanic' captain and striker from your 'Glory Year' and already it's being de-railed...

    Stay on topic please! <ok>

ok joking aside it has interested me so

    So far this season

Murphys 21 goals account for 43% of ipswichs total 48 league goals scored.
Jeromes 15 goals account for 26% of norwichs total 58 league goals scored.
In 2010-2011 Holts 21 goals accounted for 27% of norwichs total 79 league goals scored.

i suppose the 2 things to take from this are if youre a norwich fan betting on the first to score is a risky bet, and if youre an ipswich fan buy cotton wool and then wrap murphy in it

also the spread of goals across norwichs team could be why with four points between us, every bookie is now backing us at equal or tighter odds than ipswich to get promoted. Doesn't make it a vision from the future, but its a decent assessment of potential risk and variables.

    Maybe, maybe not...

But I think that we can agree that by the end of the season Daryl Murphy will have almost certainly proved that on goals scored (the striker's trade, so to speak), that he's comparatively far better than Holty at his best. <ok>

Holty was more to us than a striker.

He was our talisman who when the chips were down dragged our team kicking and screaming through to victory on most occasions.

Murphy may well be a fine striker, I have no idea as frankly I don't even know who even plays for you. Holty though was far more than a striker for us, his contribution was immense and cannot be measured in goals alone.

    Holty > Murphy.

Edit - if Ipswich go up then there may be more of an argument but so far I'm still with Holty. Let's wait and see shall we?

we got 12, you got 3, although you do seem to have forgotten to score at all in a lot of games that season.

It's funny how you boys are starting to give it all the Billy Big Bollux after a couple of wins against pretty woeful opposition!

Wolves? Not a woeful side I would say? Certainly a team that could of been a banana skin.

I'm not saying that we are better than you guys or you won't go up. Let's just see if you have the squad depth that's needed to see it through to the end and you don't fall away gradually like you have for the last 10 years.

This is where I feel we may come good in the end, we have decent squad depth. Either way it will be exciting to see what happens.

In fact IF Murphy did get injured you would be right up **** street. Mcgoldrick just isn't quite there, is he?
