Premier League Relegation Betting can QPR recover from disrupted summer?Jul 07, 2011 by mathew.jones The last thing a team needs when they win promotion to the Premier League is speculation regarding the future of their manager or their best players. Both have happened to Queens Park Rangers this summer and it is doing nothing for their chance of survival in the Premier League. In fact, their relegation odds are shortening by the day. First of all they have been hit with constant speculation regarding captain Adel Taarabt. This is hardly surprising considering the season he had last year, but in an ideal world the club would know where they stand by now. The latest is that the former Tottenham man is on his way to France, with PSG bidding around £10m for his services. It remains to be seen whether this will go through, but it is the main focus for QPR at the moment. The way the player himself is dealing with the speculation isnât ideal for the new season preparations either. Last month he said: âI donât want to sign for four years then after one year I am going to be back in the Championship. No disrespect, but if we keep the same players, it will be very difficult to stay in the Premier League.â This is just what you want your captain to say going into a new season in the top flight isnât it? As mentioned, this hasnât been the only disruption for QPR. They have been hit with reports that manager Neil Warnock has left the club. These have been denied since, but again, it shows a lack of stability at Loftus Road. Everyone at the club should be looking forward to life in the Premier League while the manager targets a few summer signings to boost the squad. Instead, nobody knows who the captain is going to be for the first game of the season against Bolton and Warnock has spent just as much time dismissing reports about his future than he has signing players. An example of how this sort of disruption is playing havoc with QPRâs preparation is their pursuit of Peterboroughâs Craig Mackail-Smith. They wanted to sign the striker and started discussions with him, but the player was put off after being given no assurance that Warnock would be in charge come August. After winning the Championship last year, QPR had a tough challenge ahead of them in the Premier League. Two months on from the end of the campaign, this task has become even tougher.
Right QPR, I've had enough. Unless I hear some seriously good news in teh next 24 hours, I'm switching my loyalty to a proper club, like Dulwich Hamlet.
