I gather it's a spin-off from 'Breaking Bad' (but takes place before he became 'Saul'). Did anyone see it? Any good?
I didn't know it was out, thought it was just critics reviews before the Netflix release, will have a look. It will be disappointing I think, not a fan of pre-quels and am not sure the Saul Goodman character is enough to build a series on
I'll be having a look in the next couple of days too, I hope it's at least half as good as BB. (Cue BCC telling everyone how **** BB apparently was)
I watched. Got huge promise, but the first episode is setting up the series with some character development. However, there's a nice little twist at the end
also think Saul will defo have a strong enough character for the series to work well, expecting much more of a comedy element to it
In Breaking Bad he was pretty one dimensional with the odd good moment, but that's more down to him being pretty much a bit part there to provide that one dimension in a recurring role, he wasn't meant to be a hugely developed character that the story was built around. I'm looking forward to it. If they were to start a new series with a younger lawyer that does what Saul does you could easily see the potential in it for that comedy, and they'd build the character in the series. All they've done by using Saul to spin it off from Breaking Bad is give it a ready made audience.
I saw it yesterday. I actually thought it was better than Breaking Bad, not that I was a huge fan of Breaking Bad.
Been waiting for something since Breaking Bad- and this seems to be just the trick! Episode One released today- Episode 2 out tomorrow! Winning!
Saul was a fine character in the first episode. There was no comedic element to it at all, it was a little on the depressing side of things actually. I wont give it away but he isnt the only character from Breaking Bad in the first episode so if you were a fan of Breaking Bad I dont think you will be disapointed. I guess you all are a day behind us in episodes as episode 2 is on later today.
I didnt think too much off the first episode. Good to see some familiar faces, hopefully it improves in the next couple of episodes.
Watched it last night and thought it looked quite good, the 2nd episode is out now so going to give that a watch tonight.
Netflix I think are releasing it the morning after it airs over in the states. Not sure if that's true
Seen both episodes this afternoon. The first is slow starting and it builds the story of James McGill with a very unexpected twist at the end. The second is far better entertainment wise. The bar scene with the breadsticks was incredible from Vince Gilligan. I think i'm already hooked. In comparison to the first two episodes of BB, Better Call Saul is better but it's got a long way to better Breaking Bad in the long run (I consider it the greatest television series ever). I felt that Odenkirk was under appreciated in BB, people loved his character sure but I don't think he personally got the credit he deserves. This should go some way to rectifying that.
