Who said anything about a 5 year contract? A 1 year contract is sound business. Or do you disagree?
The guy could probably teach our other full backs a thing or two, to boot, during his time here, so could have a longer-term impact.
Are you presuming we are not seeking out other younger players to step into the fold as long-term defensive replacements, beacuse we offer him an extra year?
If have no idea why giving this guy an extra years contract has anything to do with then recruiting ronaldinho, quinn and SKP? Care to explain?

He has been our best player this season for me.

Oozes class, another year at least imo., Jos has been great for us under Gus and I see no reason why Rev wont be the same, and with all due respect to our captain, I think Rev is a better technical footballer.

Rev left a far younger player for dead yesterday, was fowled from behind by said yougster who was booked. He's not as slow as some are making out.

After overpaying for average footballers the the last couple of seasons, I'm stoked we've picked up rev and Defoe! One year extension is thoroughly deserved, GP rates him as the ultimate professional & as others on here have stated why not give him a coaching role after he hangs up his boots? Didn't rev just rock up at ask for a trial? I'd like to see Lee Congerton produce the goods in the summer. <cheers>

I'll reserve judgement until I see his legs in the final run in, but based on now, he's earned a year extension.

Don;t think anyone can argue that - even O'Shea

One thing about O'Shea that's worth noting is that he's started every game in every competition for us this season (I think anyhow). 33 year old (nearly the same as Gerrard). OK different position but still very demanding - and he has looked good too. Fitness is great and we look a better ouitfit with him at centre back. Coaching position when he finishes (I'd like to see)

Interesting when you hear people saying "That's a **** pass O'Shea" when he's been under pressure and put the ball in row z instead of potentially putting the team under pressure. Defenders are defenders first and footballers second and I'd prefer the ball in Row Z than at the foot of a striker

That last minute goal against Germany really done our captain wonders!! Was rewarded with a new contract & never looked back.. Sounds like he's doing his job Marcus.. I think he represents the club well & the supporters <cheers>
