What contributed to them going was due to financial mismanagement they only had about £60,000 between them at the end of the 60s, amazing after being a top band for 6 years, and owed a load of tax. They realised they couldn't pay the high rates and pay back what they owed out of what was left so went into tax exile. So did a lot of others like great ?Scottish patriot Sean Connerywho has never paid any taxes hete since. A lot came back when .Thatcher got in and reduced the top rate of tax (the basic rate was still about 33%) which meant that despite the lower rate tax revenues went up. Don't think Jagger has paid taxes here since. Which makes the likes of him and Connery getting knighthoods wrong in my opinion.
Thanks Ehab, but since he's a monumental bellend, people are gonna complain about him now and then. Happy - in what way is this a cheap shot or misinterpreted? You're forever saying stuff like that but never explain it.
PMT - You're forever asking stupid inane questions like that, you then ignore/don't understand the response. If you can't see why it's a cheap shot that's misrepresenting the truth, or in fact if you can't even see it's a true political statement (which should not be on here) then that speaks volumes about you too.
It's the terminology used that made it interesting, who it was directed at was completely and utterly irrelevant, this has got nothing to do with politics and everything to do with you trying to deflect the fact that he's just said something stupid again.
Its a quote about politicians and is extremely political. Of course that rule doesn't apply to you. Rules only apply to other people. See my previous comments in this thread, of course they don't apply to you.
But of course that other thread about away ticket prices which talks about the upcoming general election, without any mention of Allam, is perfectly fine. ****.
I recall the tax being called " Surtax". Wasn't one of the high earners and in fact coming up to age 26 when I left the UK had more letters after my name than pounds in the bank! Suppose I could be classified as being part of the ' brain drain ' but a primary reason for leaving the UK was to accrue a bit of capital.
