As much as being an 'Also Ran' in a league run by Billionaires, to make themselves even richer isn't exactly that enticing, IT DOES MATTER.
Actually, I could live with relegation again, a lot of the best times I've had were in the second tier.
I just think, its a vain hope that being relegated will make Ashley sell up.
For me its just making a bad situation, worse again, with less and less chance of progression.

Other than commenting about the over ambitious appointment of Ronnie "Nuggetts" McDonald as Head Coach, I fully agree.

If we go down we will either stay down or continue going down the leagues

Vain hope is better than no hope. And no hope is exactly the case if we stay in the premier league, because there aren't buyers of premier league clubs out there right now. We're just a cashcow, and a sorry state for a football team in this division.

As per the title, it would be absolutely hilarious if Mike Ashley's plan backfired and we went down. It would serve him 100% right.

I dont think Mike would sell up if we went down. He is pragmatic and would do what was necessary to get back up so that his asset gets back to its value. I dont believe that we wouldnt be sold if he could get the right price but like with the players he wont sell cheaply. After all we are profitable and we are a great marketing tool for his real business.
Its noticeable that his dealings with Rangers involve provision of cash not in return for overall control but for merchandising and sponsorship rights. We are both being used by him.
From a purely selfish point of view i dont want us to get relegated. I can watch us every weekend in Premiership here - there's a lot less Championship games on.

That is utter bollocks. It will be piss easy for a club like Newcastle to get promoted again. Especially with about £60m in the bank. We didn't have a pot to piss in last time and we won it at a canter.

Mate, we WILL sign players in the summer. Signing (some) players isn't the issue; it's that we don't sign enough players. I honestly can't remember the last season we went into with a full squad. There are always gaps in there. We could always do more but Ashley chooses not to in order to bank more money.

Mike would always sell the club, no matter what division, no matter what contributing factors or mitigating circumstances we could conjure up, NUFC is for sale, everything Mike has is for sale, the problem is the price. Mike would sell his Nan if the price was right, how many people want to come in and over pay for our club, well I'm guessing that’s pretty evident

It would be about as funny as contracting bowel cancer, then on the way home you were dragged into a public toliet and gang raped by AIDS riddled junkies and then you get a phone call and find out your entire family had been eaten by Somalian immigrant cannibals.

I don't mind going down...as long as she reciprocates.

I honestly don't know why everyone so bothered about the PL. It lost its lustre a while ago for me. I would say the most fun I've had watching us since Sir Bob was in the fizzy pop and the first year back. The 5th place season was obviously a good effort and the run in March time was electric at times.

Overall I just thoroughly enjoyed that spell with Simpson, Harper, Raylor, Nolan, Barton, Carroll, Enrique, Colo, Jonas, Loverkrands, Best - there was a terrific work ethic about those lads. The fans were fully engaged and have never been since. When you were in the ground, you could just sense it. we've had better players since in some respects but we've never matched that connection or grittiness.

I think we just missed a step out altogether. Instead of evolving that side, we just ripped it to bits and employed some talented players who didn't have the same backbone.

Well, look on the bright side. At least Newcastle are in no danger of falling foul of the FIFA Fair Play rule...

I am not a fan of Carver either right now, and I think Toon_Man_Sam1 is pretty astute in picking up on the importance to Carver of being able to say 'Look at me! I am a Head Coach!'. I don't believe that under any other circumstances Carver would ever have been able to get a position where the job title was Head Coach, so for him this must be like winning the lottery.

But would any of us have said that we were pleased that Chris Hughton was appointed initially? And look at how that turned out. Don't get me wrong, Carver will never be as respected as Hughton was and still is, but it is possible it may just work out.

In my heart I am unconvinced but I think I should try harder to be like mmmkay and at least try and find a little bit of optimism, however small!

Wake up pal, last time was different on so many ways we had a strong core all the way through that team.
Now we have no identity and any quality we have in will be replaced by random young french kids.
Coming up with comments like "it will be piss easy for a club like Newcastle " is one of the reason why the southern media call us deleted.
The championship is not as easy as it seems and a lot of clubs have come unstuck

Surely, this is why it 'Wouldn't be Funny', although there are plenty who think otherwise.
Plenty of mid-week games in the Championship, so its not all bad.

I'm sure you thought we'd find it difficult last time we were in the Championship and were probably telling anyone who'd listen how we'd be going don the leagues. We could easily buy our way out of the Championship although we won't even come close to relegation this season. You have to realise the financial advantage we would have over any team in the Championship which would be a turnover about twice the size of the next biggest club in that league, plus we have at least £50m in the bank right now, and we are owned by a multi-billionaire. I agree it is a difficult league but we wouldn't stay in it for long if it came down to it.

but under Ashley he would think we had enough to go up with no support or signings.
Like I said the last time we went down we had quality players
