Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce Philippe Coutinho has signed a new long-term contract.

The 22-year-old has committed his future to the Reds by penning the deal at Melwood today.

Brendan Rodgers signed Coutinho from Inter Milan in January 2013 and, to date, he's made 81 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals. He has also re-established himself in the Brazilian national squad.

Moments after putting pen to paper on the contract, Coutinho told Liverpoolfc.com: "I'm really happy. It's a dream come true playing for this great club and being part of this squad.

"Today I've committed my future to the club and for this I'm feeling very pleased.

"This club is great and the fans have always supported me, so I've been eager to sign this new deal since conversations started. Today is a very happy day."

He added: "It means so much. This club has given me the opportunity to play and believed in me even though I hadn't been playing regularly at my previous club.

"I've had a great reception since my first day here. As I always say, Liverpool is a big family and I'm a happy person here."

Coutinho has been in outstanding form in recent weeks for Liverpool, leading to him being voted as the club's Player of the Month for December.

After claiming two assists in the Reds' 2-0 victory over West Ham United on Saturday, Rodgers reserved glowing praise for the No.10, describing his performances as 'top level'.

Easily the best player in our squad to watch. The lad glides, glad we tied him down for a few more years at least.

Fantastic news! Couldn't be happier for both us and him. The only news that could top this would be Johnson having his contract terminated ;)

Coutinho has blown hot and cold a little in the past, but this season he's really getting into his stride. Much more consistent, can now play the full 90, and has been our MOTM on several occasions for me, despite others getting the limelight.
Liverpool player of the season so far, imo, although pundits on autopilot will probably go for Raheem.

  10. That lean picture looks a bit dodgy to me. Looks like its been photoshoped; look at his hands.

  11. That's not a bad thing as far as Coutinho is concerned

  12. I'm reading its an extension until 2020. The mirror are claiming he's doubled his wages to £70k per week <ok>

    Excellent news.

Hes probably my my favourite player to watch when on form. He just glides past players with easy with a burst of acceleration and his low centre of gravity helps him twist and turn.

Needs to to work on his finishing and making an impact on the whole game. Instead of fading after 70 minutes though.

With th sturridge and sterling ahead of him he's got players making the runs which he can find now which is why his form has picked up compared to the start of the season.

Unsharp masking can cause that effect.
Most professional photos get a bit of tarting up for publication (I used to work in that field), it's one of the things that Moon landing conspiracy theorists get all worked up over but it's common practice.
It's definitely not a proper lean though, it looks like he's standing on his own two feet. What is the world coming to?

    Coutinho can't lean

It's physically impossible for him to be off balance

    The world would tip first
