The striker's thoughts on the 3-0 win over Accrington Stanley
Rory Donnelly made a big impression on the Tranmere fans after scoring twice on his home debut in a 3-0 victory over Accrington Stanley.
The 22 year-old forward opened the scoring 12 minutes into the game before sealing the win with Tranmere's third 12 minutes into the second half.
After the game, he declared himself pleased to have played his part in helping Rovers to the victory.
He said: “It was really well done by the boys, three points and a clean sheet was what we came for and what we got so we're all very happy.
“That was what we've been working on at the training ground and it paid off today.
“It wasn't just about the goals, it was about the team performance and the three points and a clean sheet.”
Donnelly has arrived at Prenton Park on loan from Premier League side Swansea City until the end of the season and is pleased to have accepted the opportunity.
He added, “I've seen what it's all about and I'm happy I've made the move.
“The manager (Garry Monk) said I needed to go and get some game time so I have done.
“It's very easy to settle in with these boys, they've made me feel very welcome and the crowd was immense today.
“I'm here to help the team move up the table and get a few wins under our belts.
“It's a very good squad and everybody is really behind each other and the manager seems to know where he's going with the group.”

He should be in the first team with a few games under his belt by now. Its shocking how he has been left on the side lines by us ....

He wasn't, this is just this guys way getting attention.
He should be gaining experience at a level that is comfortable - probably league 1. Having been given every encouragement and opportunity by Laudrup he showed at every game he was not up to Premier League level not by a long way and keeping him here would only have led him to spend more and more time not playing. He was loaned to Coventry and stayed one day. He came back to Swansea where, because of his loan contract. he couldn't play.
This loan should do wonders for his confidence and give him a platform to have a good career as professional player.

    Yes.
He was taken on tour by Laudrup and was then given game time in the early stages of the Europa Cup.
As you say, he himself sabotaged his loan move to Coventry. Perhaps, if he'd stuck that out and performed, he might have earned himself another opportunity by now.

Glad to see him start off with a bang. He has never been ready for Premier League football though (however, I did agree at the time that he would have been a better option than the out-of-form and low-on-confidence Vasquez or Shechter). You don't go from a boy playing Irish football straight into a mid-table Premier League side boasting Michu and Graham, and later Bony. He always needed loan spells to work his way steadily up the ladder. After a year training with our PL squad, he should have seen the quality required and set his sights on loans, asking for them rather than being told. His career has stalled because he hasn't gone out on loan yet. If he does the business at League 2, then we put him into League 1/Championship and see how he does. If he's still nailing it, then, and only then, should we look at utilising him as a regular at PL level.

I'd like to see the lad get some games for us. Glad he'd got off to a flyer, now needs to keep it up and show Monk what he can do. Really please for the lad.

Pleased for the lad as well but it is Tranmere and we saw their standard the other day. Div 2 I think? For that reason I don't understand Mr Hero's criticism of the Swans. He's yet to prove he's good enough at this level in the development squad but I hope he buckles down and does just that. Well done Rory. <applause>

Surprised with how he has been or not been managed, I expected better of him. Hope he makes it.

I believe he was well managed by Laudrup and Monk but didn't respond. He seems to have confidence issues - not as a player but as a person - he returned from Coventry after a day and he said he was initially very nervous about being in Tranmere.

I'm sure he has the talent to make a career out of football and hope he does but I'd be surprised (pleasantly) if it would be at the highest level.

Being considered as a player of the month should do his confidence the world of good.

Rory Donnelly is not popular at the club he has a disruptive influence on the under 21 side. He returned from Coventry because he didn't fancy it. As it stands the club intend to run his contract down and release him. You heard it here first. As for being let down by the club, this couldn't be further from the truth, trust me on this one.

Is the club's position likely to get revised if the keeps scoring, or has he poisoned the well.
