Fulham 3-3 City 1992 City were 3-0 up after 11 minutes and Leigh Jenkinson was on fire. But you knew, as City fans, that you were going to be hanging on for dear life for the next 71 minutes! When they got to 3-3 with about half an hour to play it was really squeaky bum time, but for a change we hung on.
1) Wembley, obviously. 2) 1996/7 Beating Palace 1-0 at Boothferry Park in front of 10,000 in the Coca Cola Cup first leg. The team that day was; Thomson, Wright, Dewhurst, Brien, Doncel, Joyce, Peacock, Lowthorpe, Darby (Quigley), Hateley (Fewings), Mann. 3) 1996/7 Beating Whitby 8-4 in the FA Cup replay. I remember it was a night match, sat in the South Stand (which I still miss). We took it to extra time with seconds left, and the couple of hundred of us in there were banging the wooden seats. Everytime we scored the PA played 'Tiger Feet', we nearly got through the full song, doing a conga along the balcony. None of the games are picked for performances, (may be Palace because of how hard Duane Darby worked) just good memories. I have had good days at the KC, but nothing which has rivaled my bets days at Boothferry. The only one I can think came close IMO was beating Swansea 1-0 in league two in a top of the table clash. Another night match and it was jumping.
That was a great game, I also went to the away game that season, which we won 3-1. I was with a mate who was well connected at Tranmere and he arranged for us to go to the players bar after the game, while there, I told Jason McAteer that I remembered him when he used to be good. No sense of humour that bloke.
League 1 4-2 victory at Shef Weds was immense, esp having lived in Shef since 99, barmbys volley with the ball dropping over his shoulder was amazing, as was the crowd that night, reckon there was easily 8000 Hull fans there making a right old racket
Kick off delayed to get us all in and an atmosphere that rarely been repeated since, Barmby was simply stunning.
I remember being one of the people the game was delayed for! There was 8 turnstiles for the away end and only 2 of them were open!! Amazing atmosphere and well worth the queues (both at the turnstile and on the motorway)
I always remember the 4-2 win against Oxford in Div3. It was the first game I bought my own ticket for, so I sat in the East Stand rather than the West stand where my dad always sat. I've never been in the West Stand since. And when we beat Watford 3-0 at home in the league, it was the last game I could make that season and I think we were 3-0 up after 20 mins. We were awesome that day!
Or the 2-2 draw away at Bolton last season! Me and my mate made the last minute decision to drive there after too many afternoon beers, made my girlfriend drive and drank a bottle of whiskey on the way over. I don't remember either of the goals but I do remember making my girlfriend wait about an hour after the match for the players to come out only to be stood at Boltons exit, we met their reserve keeper that was it! She was not happy.
This is my favourite too talk about squeaky bum time. Every goal in that game was at the end I was sitting at so had a great view all match
That game sticks in the memory for me because we had our regular run out music every game up to that. They turned up with Beardsley as captain and as the teams came out the tunnel to the Star Wars theme instead. Never heard us use it again since either. Mine is probably the Anfield away game in the League Cup. Being 2-0 down, down to 10 men, and having Matt Baker in goal and then coming back to 2-2 made such a good feeling and atmosphere, well until we lost 4-2 or about 9-3 on aggregate. It was also my first away game so as a school kid at the time I thought it was always like that. lol
City v Sunderland 1974 3-1 to the tigers. I remember John Hawley scoring a great goal. It's on youtube.
Heres the goals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=QWAr1Nyh16s Hopefully this works.
Ages ago.... 1970 (i think) The Watney Cup Semi-final angainst Man Utd...and the first penalty shoot out..... I remember the great George Best score the first ever penalty & the great Denis Law missing the first as well.... unfortunately we lost! Recent times.... Taking a massive support to Hilsborough and watching the Barmby show winning 2-4... great atmosphere The promotion year.... Gotta be the Watford home game winning 4-1 at the end of the match finally realising I'd see my club play at Wembley..... Only better'd by the Wembley game & win itself... Happy days! The Premiership.... Not the Arsenal win.... but winning at Liverpool 2-0 (Outsinging the kop)....... until a man called Gerrard turned up to force the draw 2-2!
I'll always have fond memories of beating Tranny Rovers 6-1, Theo in goal and making no effort for the penalties. The best thing was on Burnsy about 45 minutes after the final whistle. A Tranny Scouser rang in and said, "The scoreline flattered Hull, we totally out played em". Had to admire his love for the Rovers. Scouse twat
The 4-2 win over Oxford in our Div 3 promotion season I will always remember. And the 2-1 win over Palace in 2008 - looked to be heading for a draw before Ash scored with a cracking header 5 mins from time - that was the best home atmosphere I can recall, (couldn't make the play-off against Watford unfortunately). I also fondly remember the 3-2 win over Everton - I was on the front row of the North Stand for that. The panicked look of 'Oh ****' on Tim Howard's face the moment Dawson hit the free-kick was absolutely priceless. The Blackburn away trip in our first Prem season was a really good laugh but I really enjoyed Wigan away last season. The atmosphere was pure comedy gold - 'we're relegated, who gives a ****? Let's party' was the theme of the day then.
1. Wembley obviously 2. Hull 8 Whitby 4. Barnstormer at the park, Darby with teh first 6 after we were 30 seconds from being knocked out. 3. Beating Crystal Palace over two legs in the league cup circa 95. Ian wright popping up with the winner- tremendous. 4. First prem away win v Newcastle. Masive stadiumm, comfortable win, first time I realised we had become a massive club. 5. Arsenal away. Obviously.
