I think it is unfair to blame the North Stand for not singing. I waited for 25 minutes in a massive queue outside turnstiles 40 - 45 and missed the first ten minutes of the match. The crowd were singing "we want our money back" and I can imagine were not in the best of moods for singing once they finally got in the ground. I asked a steward if we could use the gates to our right which had no queue at all and was told no there was a gate closed between the sections. If the crowd are already hacked off before they even get into the stadium, because of insanely poor management, what can you expect?
The same happened to the Newcastle United fans, although they assaulted some turnstile operators who had to stand outside to try and explain why they couldn't get in.
No I'm saying imagine if people didn't sing because of where they're sat in the stadium like you said I wasn't referring to myself but a typical person on your scenario which you rightfully dismissed. I guess i was trying to be funny "I don't want to be on Row C. I'm not chanting."
I saw one coach of Newcastle fans police escorted down Walton Street around 2:55. (Yeah I was late too).
They were attacked because of the long queues of people trying to get in and the difficulty they had with the machines and their tickets. At kick-off I mentioned the number of empty seats in the Newcastle end and had they had trouble selling their allocation. The answer was no they couldn't get through our turnstiles so some of them took it out on our staff.
