In terms of who is being the more productive at winning games of football, there is no contest, and I am with the majority on that. Lallana has an ability to pick his way past players and is beautifully balanced. Pretty football to look at, but the stats will show what we already know- we may have signed the bargain of the season.
So in other words, Lallana works hard, plays some defense, and draws defenders to him via his dribbling threat but Tadic is better because ultimately it's goals and assists that matter. While Long and Davis work hard, play some defense, and draw defenders to them, and they are unsung heroes with vital roles in the team.
Is this supposed to come across sarcastic? The problem is that what you say is logical. Lallana is good but not as good as Tadic. Long and Davis are good but not as good as Radix. Fair point. But you need Longs and Davises to let the flair do its thing. Edit: Why is Tadic appearing as Radix?
Tadic has been seen as a direct replacement for Lallana. That may or may not be true, but he certainly seems to be working in that role, so far as the similarity of Ronald's tactics go with Pochypoos. In that sense, Tadic is the more effective player, even though, in my opinion, Lallana is the more skilful player in terms of dribbling, beating his man, bamboozling tricks, etc... We have already seen that Tadic has vision and passing ability that is a direct upgrade on Adam, and this appears to be more effective than the ability to go past an opposition player. As you say, other players do other things in the team. I would have loved to have seen Lallana and Tadic in the same Saints team. But there you go. He is chasing his Champions League dream and we are chasing ours.
You are right, TSS. Lallana comes out badly if you do direct comparisons, because we see Tadic as a direct replacement, but teams adjust to allow for the players they have. They are different and I have no doubt if Lallana was still here and Tadic was somewhere else, more people would prefer Adam because he was ours and we would admire his loyalty in staying. We can have no confidence that Tadic will stay longer than a few seasons...not because he is a fly-by-night, but just because that is how it is. However, Tadic's effectiveness is obvious and he can be judged easily on assists and (hopefully) a good few goals, so I am very glad he is here (as keeping AL wasn't an option).
I still say Tadic, because..... A. You don't turn into a **** player overnight and he will come good again. B. HE PLAYS FOR SAINTS!!!!!
I said nothing between them when this poll was first done and I stand by it! Tadic is certainly worst on the right than lallana was.
Lallana never played on the right. That might have technically been his position but he spent almost all of his time in the center of the pitch.
Tadic on the left and not taking corners, just needs to regain his confidence again, still technically the better player, just not doing it at the moment.
On their days, Cant separate them. But lallana Just nicks it for me, But at least Tadic can last a full 90.
Unfortunately on current form lallana is clearly the better player but if tadic could get his colour-blindness sorted he could well improve
I think a lot of people are missing what he did right. He played a few very neat reverse passes. His link up was very good. Yes, his crossing wasn't great - but no one was whipping them in. However, right now I'd like to see him in the middle (supported by Big Vic and Morgan) behind Pelle, with Elia and Mane on the wings. That would just be scary.
I know the OP doesn't criticise Tadic but it annoys me that this poll comes after Dusan has a couple of poor games. The underlying message isn't great to me.
