Newport County have accepted a bid from us for teen sensation Regan Poole. please log in to view this image “The 16 year old has only made five senior appearances for the Exiles’ first team, but has attracted a host of scouts to South Wales. Manager Justin Edinburgh expects the deal to be done soon for Poole, who could have left for nothing at the end of the season. “Regan’s deal is ongoing, I don’t get too involved in the facts and the figures, but I know Fulham have made an offer than has been accepted by us,” Edinburgh said. “It’s an offer that’s been accepted, one we feel is right for the club and Regan.” “We have to be protective of the football club because he’s only on a scholar contract and, at the end of that, he could walk away from the club for nothing or really minimal compensation. If things pan out the way they look, he will move on but with our blessing.” Source: http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newport-county-accept-offer-fulham-8414611 The lad has played for Wales at U17 level, so Kit's involvement there presumably had a bearing.
The youngster is going to stay at Newport, for the time being: "Regan Poole, 16, will stay on loan at the League Two promotion chasers for the rest of the 2014-15 campaign. Manager Justin Edinburgh said: "For Fulham I think it makes sense because they are going to have a player who will probably be into double figures on League appearances at the age of 16." County have been negotiating Poole's move to Fulham for some weeks and Edinburgh feels the loan arrangement "is only going to enhance his progression". Edinburgh added: "They are more than happy. They have seen the progression he has made in the short time they have been tracking him. "He is going to learn far more playing for us, a team chasing promotion, than playing development team football. Fulham see that as well." Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31017996
Are we going to be the third team from Wales (but not in Wales)? Is Kit's masterplan to actually just have welsh players in the squad? Just kidding of course. This lad looks decent.
We certainly won't be short on young centre backs, that gives us: Burn Hutchinson Cassasola Grimmer Burgess Poole
And, Arthurworrey and Buatu and Donnelly. That makes nine. Looks like we're stockpiling this position as we've done with young goalies in the past.
Think we can add Baba to that list too, think he's been playing there for the 21s. In fairness, it's better to have too many than not enough. I had been wondering what happened regarding the Poole transfer, since I hadn't seen any official confirmation. Any idea what the story is with the other young Welsh lad we were supposed to be signing from Bristol City? Davies I think his name is.
FI - it was Aron (correct spelling) Davies - 17yr old and yet another centre half (I think). Believe the rumour was because of tweets a couple of weeks ago that he and Regan Poole shared with their old school (in Cardiff) coach Andy Gorman. Aron hasn’t played in any of their Academy games since then but I can’t find anything that says he’s no longer on Bristol City’s books.
