Who do you want as captain then? The captain needs to be a certain starter and have the respect of the rest of the team so that they listen and pay attention to him.
Exactly, and it very, very obvious we don't have anyone who fits those requirements. We need to address it in the transfer market. Hugo can wear the armband but he's not going to be able to affect games and lead the team on the pitch. Kane, Bentaleb and Mason stood up to Adebayor, Capoue and Kaboul recently. Maybe we pick the strongest character of them and get them to do it?
We can have all the top players because they all must be rested for a full week before the final. For me this is more important then Fiorentina whom we play three days before. Use your noodle Poch and rest the lot, put a reserve team out for Italy.
I’d play the same team that beat Chelsea, and start none of them against Fiorentina. That would mean Lamela and Bentaleb would start during the week.
Hopefully we will have a comfortable lead from the first leg Vs fiorentina to rest the lot for the away leg
I'm not sure if anyone has written this but will Spurs go through to the CL next season if we lose the Final and Chelsea win the PL?
Brian A new player coming into the side, especially in January, would probably not instantly earn respect from the rest of the team. Perhaps if it was Philipp Lahm or Thiago Costa maybe but it is unlikely we will sign players of that calibre yet. Therefore it has to be someone already here. I don't think Kane, Bentaleb or Mason are yet ready to have that extra responsibility so that leaves only Lloris.
At which point we are back at the need to seek a leader. Hugo is a very fine goalkeeper but he doesn't appear as a leader to others during play. if there is nobody within the club capable of doing more than calling heads then high up our recruitment list is getting someone to instil the right attitude. If we had recruited Schneiderlin, then I suggest he could easily have coped with the job. Maybe someone from outside who trucks no stupidity and sees himself as a winner would do spome good and shake up a few of those who see their salries and cars as more important than winning. It may not be easy but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be seeking it.
HOME! Wow that was a trek but great fun singing all the way back on the train-Tottenham boys making all the noise......
The away support got a tip of the cap from the Guardian, I think. I’m really impressed by Eriksen’s 2nd goal. He very deliberately timed and chipped it in such a way as to keep it as far as possible from all three Sheffield players. It was similar to the rebound he he chipped in earlier this year. Perfect pass from Kane as well. A tasty final for neutral fans, I think.
Well, we made it - just! Never going to be easy and certainly cannot fault the work effort, which was impressive pretty much throughout. Biggest concern was the fact that Sheffield were clearly gaining momentum down our left side - all their threat started there - and yet Poch didn't seek to provide Davies with any support until almost too late (Rose). Neither Lamela or Eriksen (no - not criticising him lol) were defensively aware enough to cover and it was no surprise when they got back in it. Two lovely goals and overall a really gutsy performance. Well done lads - and travelling support!!!
SOS IS GOING TO WEM-BER-LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY FOR HIS CUP FINAL NUMBER 3!!! (Providing I don't miss the application deadline ). ****ing hell we don't make it easy for ourselves do we?! Dominated the game for 88 minutes and the two minutes we lost concentration they bang in two goals sloppy. Eriksen, take the biggest, well-earned bow my friend, two truly stunning goals. Thought the midfield trio were great, Stambouli must have won about 95% of his attempted tackles, Mason's energy was superb and showed he's over the initial rustiness after returning from injury and Dembele really took control of the game, resulting in that dirty Sheffield **** to do that scraping tackle on the back of his foot, in my opinion those sort of tackles are just bad as a two-footer and deserve a red. Kane was a bit greedy throughout the game, I know he registered the all important assist but there were times I felt he could've passed instead taking a shot, he still caused the Sheffield defence plenty of problems though and it's great seeing him lead the line where he's much more effective. Fantastic moment for the club, albeit having to do it in a typical "Spursy" fashion of heart-in-mouth moments but we're going to Wembley once more. COYS!!!

Hate the word 'Spursy' Think the problem was Dembele going off injured and paulinho coming on. If was me I would of put Rose on to help Davies out as all Sheff U attacks over the two games came down his wing. Hoping to get tickets but very doubtful for me as only got like 150 loyalty points! Did see they reckon our allocation with be 31k
When I went to the 08 and 09 finals, I'm pretty sure the loyalty point minimum was about 130, so if you're on 150 I'd say you should have a good chance of getting a ticket.
Like Moorpheus my phone was very luck to survive last night. I think one tweet that was posted on the beeb summed it up pefectly: "What. The. Hell. Just. Happened?" At that point we showed great character not to lose and then to wrestle ourselves back into the final. If we are gonna whinge and moan about the lack of character during those 2 mins we have to acknowledge the reverse too. Kane was a bit greedy last night, but actually i couldn't find a fault with any of his attempts. Sometimes nobody was with him and 2 or 3 defenders homing in on him. A couple of other times Eriksen was in the box but the path to him was well guarded by a defender. Better have a crack than pass it straight into a defender. I have great faith that Kane knows when is best to shoot and when is best to pass, and his deeper roles and assist last night have proven he can pass very well.
Did not see the game, but by most accounts it seems like more of the recent complacency to not finish the job once the first strike is made. But not fatal this time. I'm not sure whether that Eriksen free kick was an intended cross either. IMHO one good thing to come out of this is that Pochettino has a new stick to beat the complacent with. I would be saying to the squad that if the recent week-in week-out displays continue from now til March, do not expect to be on the Wembley team sheet.
I hope it's a bloody great big stick. This **** just keeps on happening - you expect it happen, you can just see it coming - that's the sad thing. I'm no spring chicken and I'm not sure how much longer my blood pressure is going be able to stand more of this crap.
