I never saw him play for us, I can't remember watching him for anyone else either although I will almost certainly have seen him play at some point. And I've just realised I missed Barmby off my list.
My abiding memory of Jobbo was watching him bringing the ball out of defence and slicing through the opposition midfield, he was a class act
Bly and Carter were before my time but nobody will top Waggy and Chilton. As for the last 20 years IMO the likes of Windass - Ashbee - Elliott - Andy Dawson will / should be high on all lists.
My favourite players from the past would have to be Keefy Edwards, Big Billy, Brian Marwood - I was devastated when the Wendies stole him from us, Billy Askew, Tony Norman, Pete Skipper, Stan McEwan, Richard Jobson, Stuart Elliott, Justin Whittle, John Hawley, Warren Joyce for the Great Escape, Ashbee goes without saying - a hero, Deano, Fraizer Campbell - yeah I know but he gave me some golden memories, and there are probably others that I can't remember at the moment. Waggy and Chillo were just before my time or they'd certainly be on the list.
Stans free kicks were awesome one in particular at Blackburn also John Hawley and ken houghton legends
Does anybody remember that goal he scored v Plymouth at home, he made it look so easy but it was a stunning finish Does anybody remember that goal he scored v Plymouth at home, he made it look so easy but it was a stunning finish
Great video, thanks for posting that Quill. I'd forgotten how good Elliott was. Some of those finishes are amazing. The angles he would score from and the way he'd hit the top corner with a one on one. Brilliant. The daft thing is I can remember all sorts of stupid facts about City from that sort of era, but forgot how good Elliott was.
After Marwood's first home game as he came off the pitch I said to him that one day he would play for England. He was genuinely pleased and thanked me. A group of us in the well chipped in together and sponsored his kit. Which makes it a bit upsetting the way he seems to airbrush City out of his history.
Elliott's general play wasn't the greatest, but he had a knack. He'd do nothing for 80 minutes and bang a header at the back post. If Sodje hadn't had smashed his cheek bone he'd of got about 35 goals 2004/05. I also remember him playing a lot as a striker that season with Barmby in the hole.
I agree, but it's sadder for him than it is for us, it's always sad when people forget where they came from, and it usually comes back to bite them on the arse!
