I know Drogs was not great in his first season, but looking at Costa 2005 v Drogba 2006, how do they compare...
Costa could end up even greater than Didier!

    Finishing:
    Costa 9
    Drogba 7

    Power:
    Costa 7.5
    Drogba 8.5

    Pace:
    Costa 7
    Drogba 8

    Presence:
    Costa 9
Drogba 10 when on it, 6 when not in the mood

    Strength
    Costa 8
    Drogba 9

    Link play:
    Costa 8
Drogba 7 when interested, 5 when not in the mood

    Heading:
    Drogba 8
    Costa 7

    Workrate
    Costa 9
Drogba, either 9 or 5 depending on mood!

    Defensive work
    Drogba 9
    Costa 6

    Set pieces
    Drogba 8
    Costa N/A

    Temperament
    Costa 5
Drogba 5 (in 2006) better later

Too early to compare but Costa has certainly started his career with us better than Drogba...but we all know how Drogba ended his (save for this season's return).

Costa looks the more natural goal scorer but Drogba's ability to score important goals is simply unrivalled.

    This.
We haven't really played with Costa in a cup final or CL semi or something yet, so a little unfair but no one can argue that Drogba was a big game player. 9 goals in 9 Wembley Appearances is it?

Scored in 3 FA Cup finals, 3 League Cup finals, 1 Champions League final, 2 time PL golden boot winner......

Costa can certainly beat it if he carries on as he has and scores in some big matches though

    No contest

Drogba every time, Didier could do things that Costa will always dream about. Will Costa surpass Didier? Possibly they are different but both deadly in front of goal but lets wait and see if Costa is a big game man.

Huge fan of Costa and think he could become a great here, but too early to make the Drogba comparison just yet I think.

We haven't had a finisher like Costa since Jimmy though!

I'd personally much rather have Costa, as he delivers more consistently than Drogba ever did. Drogba only had 2 prolific seasons in 8 years at Chelsea. This is why you felt the need to spend 30 on Shevchenko and 50 on Torres. If Drogba was more consistent you wouldn't of made those big transfers, that turned out to be flops. Drogba had a great record in big games, you can't argue with that though.

I feel though that Costa is the best striker you've had during the RA era

They are such different players you can't compare them. The team played completely differently to Drogbas' strengths, and it is to his credit he can still play well under our new system. Costa is not unlike Jimmy Hasselbank, he's there and he scores. He's the perfect fit for our current squad. I'm pleased to say Drogba is a legend, Costa looks like becoming one.

    Jfh was brilliant wasn't he!

Ahem, I think costa will be a better goal scorer-but in terms of presence, and important goals, I doubt ill see dd surpassed in my lifetime.

drogba WAS chelsea for maybe 3 years. He won us cups through desire alone.

    incredible!

Costa looks more prolific than Drogba was in his first season, but he could win games on his own purely by wanting to.

Just a shame the stroppy aunt didn't want to all the time ;) Complete legend though :)

Talking of strikers, I see Sky are running an article about Torres being 'back' after a couple of games at Madrid. FFS. Let him put in a few months of good work and goals first. I've witnessed far too many false dawns with that lad!!

Costa is playing in a team with Hazard Oscar & Fabergas behind him, Drogba would have been more prolific with those behind him imo

Yet he was never overly dirty. He didn't need to push it, he was just do difficult to handle for CBs, some strength. Pity he fell over so often like he was 8 stones in weight.

To this day I still can't fathom how he got booked for Evans kicking him in the chest. one of the worst fouls in the PL era

It was because Evans had a fierce electric current running through his leg which he transferred to Drogba hence the convulsions. One of the funniest bits of over acting ever seen on a football pitch. Fantastic player, far superior to Costa in my opinion, but also a monumental tart. Vidic laughing at him is hilarious!

What Drogba did was neither here nor there, that was blatant official corruption. Not giving the free you can say bad call, but to book Drogba for it <laugh> That ref had a nice holiday that year I reckon
