After being relegated from the Premier League last season, Fulham have been inconsistent so far in the Championship this time around. However, they have won their last two matches, including a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, thanks to a hat-trick from striker Ross McCormack. Sunderland have been in poor form since the turn of the year, with their only win in 2015 coming at home against Fulham's Championship rivals Leeds United in the previous round of this competition. In the league, they have gone five matches without a win, with their sole point during that run coming from a 0-0 draw at fellow strugglers Aston Villa. Lee Cattermole, Adam Johnson and Wes Brown are expected to miss Saturday’s FA Cup tie with Fulham through injury. Cattermole and Johnson are both struggling with minor injuries with Brown also suffering from a knock, and first team coach Charlie Oatway admits the coaching staff are unlikely to take a risk. Speaking to safc.com, Oatway stated that he expects all three are likely to return ahead of next weekend’s match against Burnley. “Lee Cattermole and Adam Johnson are both struggling with these little niggly injuries so it is very unlikely that they will take part in the game. “Hopefully both of them will be fit to take part in training next week, but we can’t take the risk and we need to make sure they’re 100% fit before they return.” He continued: “Wes Brown also has a bit of a knock so we will assess him on Friday, but other than that we’re okay. “We also have Liam Bridcutt back in contention which gives us a boost in the midfield area in the absence of Catts, so it is great to have him available once more.” And Oatway also revealed that the Black Cats could also make a goalkeeping change when the Cottagers come to town. “There is a good possibility that Vito [Mannone] could play, but I haven’t spoken to Gus [Poyet] yet about what he wants to do with the goalkeepers.” Fulham Team News Fulham won at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League last season but have struggled to adapt to life in the second tier since their relegation. They currently sit 14th in the Championship table, although back-to-back victories have moved them closer to the playoffs than they are to the bottom three. The most recent of those came on Wednesday as Ross McCormack hit a hat-trick to put his side into a commanding lead over Nottingham Forest after just 35 minutes. Forest fought back, but couldn't completely reduce the deficit as they succumbed to a 3-2 defeat. McCormack was also the hero in the last round as he scored a 120th-minute equaliser to force penalties against Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Fulham eventually winning the shootout 5-3. They were knocked out at this stage of the competition last season after a replay against Sheffield United and have not won an away FA Cup game inside 90 minutes for five years. Manager Kit Symons has insisted that his side are "happy" with the tag of underdogs, even calling the match a "bonus game", but he is likely to name a strong side in an attempt to pull off an upset. That could mean McCormack remains in the side, while Lasse Vigen Christensen is also in contention having missed the last four games with a hamstring injury. Scott Parker is a doubt with an ankle injury, however, while Tim Hoogland and Fernando Amorebieta remain long-term absentees. The 'Defoe' factor will give this game a boost and I think it's the perfect opportunity for Poyet & the players to practice the system before Burnley. As that game is a full week away I can't see any reason not to use the players, against Fulham, who'll be on the pitch then. Hopefully the likes of Defoe can get an hour in and put us far enough ahead to bring some fringe players on. I'm pretty sure Graham will start.
Aye, and agree graham could start with defoe. He's shown more than fletch and wickham in his last two outings to warrant the opportunity.
^^^ match report I think we'd all love to field our first team with Defoe, as a practice game against a Championship side. Looks like we'll have to do that without Johnson, Cattermole, Johnson and Brown. Bet'cha a packet of chocolate biscuits he play Fletcher
I don't want to start an internet war mate but I wouldn't piss on a packet of Hobknobs. So sir, there's no finer chocolate biscuit, the the mighty McV, and I'll fight any man, to the death, who says otherwise. I hope I've made myself 'plain'
Ive been very critical of Graham and he pretty much deserved it all, but i think start him with Defoe, if it still doesnt work for him next to Defoe and against Championship defenders then last chance blown for me!!
Gus seems to go with his first team and sticks to it, he don't like changes and with 3 'first on the Teamsheet' players out of service ...the dark choccy biccis are mine am telling yer, all mine
Bridcutt targets winning feeling Published: 23 January, 2015 by Michael Bowers Midfielder set for cup return. Liam Bridcutt believes Sunderland have a great opportunity to recapture a winning mentality when they entertain Fulham in the FA Cup fourth round. Gus Poyet’s side overcame 1973 FA Cup final opponents Leeds United in the third round to set up a home tie with the Cottagers, who edged past Wolverhampton Wanderers on penalties. And Bridcutt, 25, hopes to cement his place in the team after missing the 2-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur through suspension. “Every time I’ve come in and played I seem to have a good game, but then one way or another I’ve found myself back out of the team due to injury or suspension. “With the players that we’ve got we know that the team is going to get rotated quite a bit, but the head coach knows what he’s doing and he’s got to pick the right team for the right games.” The midfielder would also like to see a repeat of last season’s magnificent cup run, which saw the Lads reach Wembley before producing an inspired run of form to beat the drop. “Obviously after last season’s cup run it was a great feeling to be part of the club, so we want to do that again. “We want to have that day at Wembley and this time see if we can get a trophy at the end of it.” He added: “If we get a win on the weekend then it gives us that momentum to go forward, because we have some big games coming up and we want to head into them with a winning feeling."
