It comes down to how much a club bids for him.

quick question - why would anyone pay £5million for Cork, as a poster mentioned on the previous page, who is a backup player for us with less than 6 months left on his contract. We only paid 750k for the lad when he was at Chelsea. I'd say we'd be offered around £2million at best which wouldn't be worth accepting in our position. I think we will keep him for the season and then it's up to him if he wants to stay longer. If he doesn't I think we can find a replacement.

Why do a lot of teams buy players for crazy money in Jan?

If he could make the difference to a team fighting relegation, then he's worth loads more than 5m.

Would he want to join a team fighting relegation? I'd rather go to a better side that would glad to have me on a free.

Most of the bottom half are close enough to be concerned. Everton in 12th are only 4 points off.

As James G implies above, the list of clubs that
    - Are not fighting relegation
    - he would definitely start for

Is probably not a long one.
Stoke, swanea and Newcastle perhaps. And I'm not certain he is guaranteed to start for all of those sides.

But then it comes back to the debate people have been having about the kid who joined Real, footballers tend to back themselves...

IT WILL ALL DEPEND ON OUR LEAGUE FINISH!

IF WE FINISH IN A CHANPIONS LEAGUE POSITION, THE PLAYERS WILL STAY!

    FFS CALM DOWN.

I think everyone is calm RLGB (certainly I am), but I don't think everyone will stay if we finish in a Champs League spot. They may do, they may (probably) not. Either way, we'll be absolutely fine.

The only one I don't want to see the back of is Koeman. As far as I'm concerned, he can bring in a fresh 11 every season, providing they're better than the last.

Do you think I've gone all big time..? :D

Your statement is so out of context to the rest of the thread, once again it is as if you haven't really been reading it :)

You don't know that for a fact. There's a better chance they will stay but far from certain.

Not really. You just appear to have eradicated pessimism from your world view, which is not a natural state for a football supporter.

That's true. The better we finish the more likely players will want to stay, but players leave bigger clubs than ours all the time. They just decide that another club suits them better or they don't like life in Manchester/Liverpool/London (or amazing as it may seem even Southampton :)).

That would be brilliant, however every large shuffle of players is a risk and we need most to hit the ground running. It only really clicked after the Millwall game. I would rather we avoid another large turn over, although we may not be able to help it. However, I think we should try and rebuff most suitors.

A quote by Gary Neville summarised on the BBC: Gary Neville believes the days of a traditional football manager are over and more clubs will be appointing technical directors in the mould of Les Reed at Premier League high-fliers Southampton.

Traditional football manager is an archaic form of managing a football club currently existing only in England. The rest of the Europe have technical directors.
