Koeman says there are some very good players in Holland and says he has his eye on signing some of them.

He then made the point that they were targets for the summer, not January. Clasie...?

 

Come on then Beefy, we're not signing an attacker apparently now so who was your man?

 

Please don't start a summer transfer thread already. We have shown that we can't second guess Ron and Les.

 

Summer Transfers Thread:

Everyone leaves. Supporters get pitchforks and torches. Ron and Les sign 14 players in the final week of the window and promote six 17y/olds to the first team. Saints win an unprecedented treble come end of the season.

 

Also Davide Astori finally signs for us.

Funnily enough, Ronald alluded to Dutch players progression in his news conference. I agree with him 100%.

Disappointing really as I feel we have a unique opportunity to reach the Euro's and another quality or two would make qualification a little more certain as our squad is paper thin

 

As it stands right now, injuries to Forster, Pellè, and to a lesser extent Clyne, could leave us looking pathetically thin.

 

Totally agree. Do we have a chance at Europe - most definately. Do I feel we'd have a better chance with a couple of careful additions - most definately.

I still think if the right player is available we will be interested.

 

Right now, yes, but soon we will have two players who could contend for starts for every attacking position, a host of central midfielders, 3 or 4 CBs who could do a job and 2 adept LBs. The only positions you could remotely argue we are short for cover is RB and GK or maybe a player who can replicate Pelle's style at CF (but then if Rodriguez is back before the end of the season then there's another attacking player to add to the mix). In any case, we aren't going to be signing affordable players in those positions who could contend with what we have, especially in an inflated window so what's the point?

Really, if the right deal isn't available then I'm glad we're not making signings just to pad the squad. Still think Byram is in our future, either this window or next.

 

Ron was obviously trying for certain players...if he now is saying we are not signing any more players, we must have failed to get the targets. If he feels that our present squad is good enough (especially when our absentees return), what would be the point in signing just anyone when he might not want to play them anyway.

Take it Locadia was who we inquired about beefy? I'd be delighted with him, from the little I've seen.

Makes sense, would have been a hard deal to get at the right price in January.

 

Is it looking like no further additions in this window? We're definitely a bit thinner than I'd prefer, particularly given our injury/absentee situation.
